About the Role
Reporting to the Manager Operations, the Superintendent is required to bring a strong leadership approach to enable their team to ‘safely deliver the customer service plan’ whilst meeting key business objectives efficiently with a high priority on the continuous improvement across the intermodal operations.
Leading a team of approx. 7 reports and an extended team of approximately 45 front line employees, this role will balance safety leadership, people management, planning, day to day operations to deliver operational excellence with a focus on achieving best practice depot resources and assets utilization.
Key responsibilities:
- Provide leadership and mentorship to supervisors and their teams in the execution of their activities to foster a dynamic, cohesive, and productive workforce focused on continuous improvement and the achievement of performance targets.
- Ensure Supervisors are taking ownership and ensuring compliance to operating standards with work teams which include labour hire and contractors involved in the day-to-day operations of rail haulage and terminal
- Support the Pacific National culture by championing change, engaging staff, and supporting collaboration and teamwork across teams.
- Identify opportunities and take action to develop effective relationships with business partners, unions, stakeholders and customers to meet business goals
- Ensure the Freight business strategy is translated into an operational business plan with clear and measurable goals for the relevant area
- Ensure the delivery of services meet the customer service plan and meet requirements of customer contracts
- Lead the development of a customer-centred culture where employees aim to exceed customer expectations in all interactions
- Lead and champion the SHE Strategy ensuring that safety committee meetings and HSR consultation is executed with the support and advice of the Safety Business Partner.
About You
The position requires a high level of leadership, people management, negotiation, and communication skills to operate effectively at all levels of the organisation. The Superintendent must develop, communicate, direct, consult and gain support for the implementation of strategies aimed at safety, and operational performance improvement.
- Demonstrated people leadership skills with a proven track record of employee engagement, and performance-oriented workplace cultures.
- Experience in driving safety and environmental improvement in a complex and highly regulated industrial environment.
- Relevant experience in heavy industry, ideally managing rail/logistics/transportation operations across a sizeable workforce
