About the role
This Supervisor role will base out of the Sarina Train Crew Depot, fulfilling a key part of the leadership team, not only within the Depot but across all Goonyella Depots as part of the broader Coal Team.
The Supervisor plays a key role in providing leadership, support and guidance to train crew, as well as leading and coordinating day to day operations. This role will have a strong emphasis on safety leadership, implementing business improvements, driving cultural change and ensuring productive workplace practices.
Key responsibilities centre around embedding critical safety behaviours, management people, upholding and interpreting the relevant EA and building strong relationships with internal Planning and Service Delivery teams. The role also involves oversighting the planning and execution of operational activities, compliance with safe working standards and ensuring productive workplace practices.
Additional responsibilities cover:
- Identifying safety improvement opportunities, and managing, developing and delivering HSE initiatives that eliminate risk and reduce injuries and incidents within the business.
- Lead, supervise and provide support to Train Crew in the execution of frontline rail operations activities
- Enforce compliance to the operating standards by the Train Crews including any Flex Labour
- Oversight and advice related to the execution of day-to-day operations to fulfil the train plan
- Oversighting rostering to ensure efficiency and optimal design of working rosters whilst meeting EA and safety requirements
- Manage train crew including in relation to development and maintenance of capability and competency, including assessment, licensing and accreditation as appropriate.
- Proactively leading a team of frontline personnel working a dynamic 24/7 roster
- As part of the local leadership team, participate in the recruitment, onboarding and development of new Drivers to ensure the business maintains appropriate levels of skills and experience.
- Promoting and living the Pacific National ‘PNA’.
About you
To be successful in this role, you will need to be a strong communicator with the ability to build positive working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders. A strong safety focus is essential along with the ability to engage and support personnel.
In addition, you will need:
- Demonstrated operational experience and knowledge in a comparable role in a dynamic and demanding environment.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a proven record leading teams and implementation of cultural change/improvement initiatives.
- Demonstrated understanding of good HR/IR practices and ability to resolve disputes, implement performance management processes and undertake disciplinary actions that may be required.
- Rail experience and/or appropriate industry experience in either Transport & Logistics or a similar industry will be advantageous.
- Capability to manage adverse incidents in-field and conduct follow up investigations
- Knowledge of HSE management systems and demonstrated experience managing the implementation of effective HSE initiatives.
- Excellent time-management skills
- Availability and willingness to work flexible hours.
