Join Pacific National – Australia’s largest private rail freight operator

Every day we transport millions of tonnes of critical freight around the country for our customers. We haul coal, intermodal containers, steel, and bulk commodities that keep Australia moving.

An opportunity has presented itself for Wagon Maintainer to join our team in Nebo Queensland

As a Wagon Maintainer, you’ll play a key role in maintaining and repairing coal wagons at our Nebo Workshop. Working closely with Supervisors and Planners, you’ll perform scheduled servicing, inspections, unplanned repairs, and emergency recoveries on the rail network.

This is a hands on, physical role suited to those with strong mechanical aptitude, a safety-first mindset and a willingness to learn and grow in the role. You’ll need to be reliable, team oriented and able to work 11–12 hour shifts on a rotating day and night roster.

What you'll do

  • Performing preventative maintenance, repairs, and reactive (out of course) wagon maintenance
  • Attending to in field repairs, including unscheduled breakdowns, recoveries, and collision damage
  • Carrying out heating, cutting, and welding activities
  • Operating mobile plant, vehicles, and lifting equipment within the work area
  • Moving wagons within the maintenance zone using fixed or mobile equipment
  • Fabricating and assembling components for repair, replacement, or modification

What you'll bring:

  • A safety-first mindset
  • Experience in a production, trade, or labouring environment
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to take on routine and hands on work will help you thrive in the role.
  • A reliable and proactive approach to working both independently and in a team
  • Previous experience in maintenance or mechanical roles (rail or heavy industry experience is a plus)
  • A forklift or MR driver’s licence (advantageous but not essential)
  • Basic computer and literacy skills for reporting and maintenance documentation

Why join us?
