  • Enjoy regular blocks of time off with a rotating lifestyle roster (12-hour day and night shifts)
  • Safely Every Day — That’s Our Promise

Join Pacific National – Australia’s largest private rail freight operator

Every day we transport millions of tonnes of critical freight around the country for our customers. We haul coal, intermodal containers, steel, and bulk commodities that keep Australia moving.

We're looking for a proactive Asset Deployment Specialist to join our Coal business and play a critical role in maximising fleet performance, reliability, and operational efficiency. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in a fast-paced operational environment and enjoys solving complex logistical challenges that have a direct impact on business performance.

Enjoy regular blocks of time off with a rotating lifestyle roster featuring a mix of 5-on/5-off, 5-on/4-off and 4-on/5-off patterns, working 12-hour day and night shifts.

What You’ll Do

Reporting to the Superintendent Service Delivery, you'll be at the centre of Pacific National's asset deployment strategy, ensuring our locomotive and wagon fleets are positioned to meet operational demands while maintaining compliance and delivering optimal asset performance.

This role offers a unique blend of operational decision-making, strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, and fleet optimisation. You'll collaborate with teams across Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Reliability, and Customer Service to ensure our assets are deployed safely, efficiently, and effectively across the network.

If you're passionate about leveraging data, influencing outcomes, and driving continuous improvement in a critical operational environment, we'd love to hear from you.

In this role, you will:

  • Optimise locomotive and wagon deployment to meet operational demands, customer requirements and maintenance schedules.
  • Make real-time decisions to manage disruptions, resolve competing priorities and minimise service impacts.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, Maintenance and Network Providers to deliver outstanding service outcomes.
  • Use operational data to improve fleet utilisation, reliability and commercial performance.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance fleet performance, safety and operational efficiency.

What You’ll Bring

  • Experience in asset management, maintenance planning, logistics or a heavy industry environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret data and make confident operational decisions.
  • The ability to manage competing priorities and respond to changing requirements in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement, negotiation and influencing skills, supported by clear written and verbal communication.
  • A proactive approach to continuous improvement, safety and operational performance.
  • Rail, rollingstock, fleet management, supply chain, engineering or infrastructure experience will be highly regarded, as will experience working in a 24/7 operational environment.

Why join us?

At Pacific National we value the contribution of each team member. Our values underpin our commitment to create an inclusive culture where everyone is accepted.

Some of the benefits we offer are:

  • Paid parental leave
  • Novated Leasing
  • Fitness Passport
  • Purchase leave program
  • Access to EAP program through Sonder

Most importantly, you'll join a business where safety comes first, ideas are valued, and people are empowered to make a difference.

We live by our Values: Make it Simple, Share More, Kindness, Gratitude, Curiosity, and Own It – helping us build strong connections and do our best work every day.
