Expressions of Interest - Senior Interior Designer - Melbourne, VIC, Australia

At Populous, we design the places where people love to be together.

From stadiums and arenas to entertainment destinations, airports and major civic spaces, our projects are about much more than buildings. They are about creating experiences, and the interiors of those spaces play an important role in how people connect with them.

We’re keen to hear from Senior Interior Designer in the Melbourne market with the potential to become part of our broader APAC interiors and design team.

This is an opportunity for an experienced designer who enjoys thinking beyond individual spaces, someone interested in how interiors, architecture, materiality, movement and experience come together to create memorable places.

You’ll work alongside architects, designers and specialists on major projects in Melbourne, across Australia and throughout the APAC region, helping take ideas from early concepts and storytelling through to documentation and delivery.

Populous is a global architecture and design practice specialising in places that draw people together.

For more than 40 years, we have designed some of the world’s most recognised sports and entertainment venues, arenas, convention and exhibition centres, airports, mixed-use destinations and major public spaces.

Our work starts with people. We think about how a place feels, how people move through it, what they experience when they arrive and the moments, they remember when they leave.

Our Melbourne studio is part of a connected APAC practice, giving our people the opportunity to contribute to significant projects locally while collaborating with colleagues and specialists across the region and around the world.

As a Senior Interior Designer at Populous, you’ll help lead the design and delivery of memorable interior environments across major projects in Australia and the wider Asia-Pacific region.

You’ll combine design creativity with technical expertise, project leadership and collaboration, guiding projects from early concepts through documentation and delivery.

You’ll have the opportunity to:

We’re looking for an experienced designer who can shape an idea, bring others along with the vision and help turn it into a well-resolved, deliverable outcome.

Ideally, you’ll bring:

Experience across sports, entertainment, hospitality, aviation, cultural, commercial or other large-scale public environments would be valuable, but is not essential.

Most importantly, we’re looking for someone who genuinely enjoys design, leadership and collaboration, and who wants to help create places and experiences that people remember.

If this opportunity excites you but your experience does not align with every point above, we still encourage you to apply. We recognise that capability can be developed through many different career paths and experiences.

There are architecture and design practices, and then there are opportunities to help shape places experienced by thousands, sometimes millions, of people.

At Populous, you can build your career while contributing to projects with genuine public impact.

Our Melbourne team is connected to a global network of designers and specialists, creating opportunities to learn from different disciplines, collaborate across borders and build experience across sectors and project types.

Our people also have access to benefits including:

We want our people to have the support, opportunities and experiences they need to build meaningful careers.

We know a great Interior Designer is more than a list of software skills or years of experience.

We’re looking for someone who cares about the details, is curious about how people experience spaces, enjoys working with others and gets excited by the opportunity to see an idea move from sketch to built environment.

If that sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you.

We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and experiences and are committed to creating an inclusive workplace where everyone can thrive.

We are not accepting applications or candidate submissions from recruitment agencies at this time. We ask that all candidates apply directly through this job posting.
