About the role
Our Protection and Metering Engineering Officers support Powerlink with the delivery of an efficient and cost-effective service; optimising the operation of Secondary Systems equipment owned by Powerlink and other electricity industry organisations.
Joining our Secondary Systems team, you will undertake a large proportion of pre-commissioning testing and commissioning work for refurbishments and new projects, together with maintenance work as you contribute to the completion of the work portfolio. Your role will also include completing diagnostic and investigative services as well as repairing complex Protection systems and assisting with Energy Metering systems.
In this customer-oriented role, you will play a key part in maintaining a safe and reliable supply of power to almost 5 million Queenslander customers and 238,000 business across Queensland, connecting Queenslanders to a world class energy future.
Working a 9-day fortnight with RDO’s every second Monday, you will be required to travel throughout Queensland as per the monthly work schedule, but you will be home every weekend to be with family and friends. Paid overtime hours and allowances are applicable, and you will work within a supportive team environment and with leaders who genuinely care about your well-being and work-life balance.

About you
Your drive to provide high quality Protection and Metering systems services is reflected in your prior success in the maintenance, testing, commissioning, diagnostic and investigative services, and repairs of complex systems, equipment and secondary systems in a dynamic organisational environment.
With an Electrical Fitter Mechanic Licence, an Associate Degree or Advanced Diploma in Electrical or Electronic Engineering or equivalent and “C” Class drivers licence. If you do not already hold an Associate Degree or Advanced Diploma in Electrical or Electronic Engineering or equivalent, it is expected that you have significant progress towards one and continue to undertake studies to achieve. Powerlink will support you toward achieving this.
Your previous success demonstrates your ability to effectively use automated and microprocessor controlled test instruments for use on Protection and Metering equipment and interfaces with Secondary systems; analyse and fault find on complex electrical circuitry and schemes; perform HV switching, secondary isolation and secondary systems work programs; and prepare Technical Reports and Work Procedures.
