About the roles


Increasing demand for renewable energy connections across QLD is resulting in a period of exponential growth for Powerlink. To meet this demand, we need to increase our most important resource, our workforce, and as such have new Senior Network Operations Engineering roles available!

Principal Engineer Strategic & Future Network Operations and Senior Engineer Strategic & Future Network Operations

Our new Principal Engineer Strategic & Future Network Operations & Senior Engineer Strategic & Future Network Operations roles are to provide strategic and complex power systems engineering analysis and solutions to ensure Network Operations can operate the network optimally and facilitate the energy transition.

Principal Engineer Operations Planning and Senior Engineer Operations Planning

As our Principal Engineer Operations Planning and Senior Engineer Operations Planning you will be responsible for providing operational power systems engineering services and National Electricity Market (NEM) analysis to ensure the real time operation of Queensland's transmission network is done so in a safe, stable, secure, reliable and economic manner, and is compliant with Powerlink policy, procedure and National Electricity Rules.

About you


Principal Engineer Operations Planning and Senior Engineer Operations Planning

Bring your success and knowledge of technology developments in power systems, including operating techniques for power systems, the changing dynamic of transmission networks and the electricity market, lead and direct highly specialised technical work and teams related to the performance of the interconnected power system.

Performing and maintain proficiency in use of power system analytic tools including the Energy Management Systems (EMS) and or other technologies to plan, analyse and operate electrical power transmission systems within an electricity market based environment;

  • You will have experience providing technical expertise and guidance to Network Operations in strategic power systems engineering, analysis, and operation of an electricity network.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and apply expert knowledge in the real time operation, analysis and review of power transmission system networks including complex power system behaviour and characteristics of physical transmission elements.

About you


Principal Engineer Strategic & Future Network Operations and Senior Engineer Strategic & Future Network Operations

As part of our Powerlink Team, you will provide network capacity and capability analysis, including the related development of strategic options and offer your expert subject matter advice on the delivery of alternate network solutions, remedial strategies and network support agreements to achieve optimum outcomes for all stakeholders and compliance with the NER.

You will develop and communicate detailed operational plans for the optimal development of the interconnected network to ensure operation meets reliability, system standards and network stability requirements.

  • Plus identify and implement changes in operating approaches, methods, systems and processes to facilitate the connection of new electrification loads, renewable energy projects and dynamic transmission equipment to facilitate the energy transition in Queensland.
  • Utilising your innovative approach to analyse and solve problems to operate the network effectively to manage new challenges facing the transmission network.

Role Requirements


Essential Requirements

  • Degree qualifications in Electrical Engineering
  • Register Professional Engineer Queensland (RPEQ)
  • Ability to accommodate flexible working arrangements to cope with peak workloads.
  • Occasional support outside of business hours as a result of major network risks or contingencies

Desirable

  • Understanding of the Operation of Energy Markets
  • Experience with the design and operation of secondary system control schemes
  • Experience with big data analytics/data science
