Job Summary

We are looking for motivated individuals who are driven and can deal with various stakeholders and bring together the best Primary Systems Design outcomes for Powerlink and our customers.

  • Play a critical role in supporting the design and drafting work for the Queensland Energy Plan.

About the role

One of Powerlink’s key drivers is to become the renewable energy super grid of the future and a leader in the transmission industry. If you have design drafting experience in High Voltage Substations or similar and want to further your a career in Primary Systems Substation design supporting the connection of renewable energy projects to the National Electricity Market, then we want to hear from you.


In this role you will:

  • Be responsible for Civil / Structural design drafting activities associated with high voltage substations.
  • Deliver practical and high quality drawings that comply with appropriate technical principles, standards and construction practices.
  • You work in collaboration with stakeholders and SMEs to develop optimised substation design and solutions in a timely manner.
  • Apply your expertise in substation design, construction and maintenance practices and requirements including relevant Australian Standards, Legislative and Contract requirements related to substations.

Due to significant growth in our works delivery portfolio we have various career and development opportunities either as Designer/ Drafter or Senior Designer /-Drafters. Flexible working is a key part of our business and we are happy to discuss what flexibility you will need.

About you

You are an experienced Design Drafter and will utilise your exceptional technical skills to provide a range of civil/structural design drafting activities associated with high voltage substations and/or transmission lines & underground cables.


You look forward to collaborating with leaders and specialists on the opportunities and deliverables that this diverse role offers.

In order to succeed in this role, you will have a demonstrated ability to successfully deliver substation civil and structural design drawings in order to ensure field maintenance, refurbishment and capital work is designed to time, budget and quality requirements for our HV transmission network.

We need someone with the passion and energy to prepare and deliver drawings and design solutions working with various internal and external stakeholders for multiple complex projects.

Your qualifications and experience should also include an Associate Diploma in Civil and Structural Engineering supported by experience in High Voltage infrastructure design drafting.
