Powerlink Queensland manages and operates Queensland’s high voltage transmission network, providing high voltage electricity to over five million Queenslanders and 238,000 businesses.

With exponential growth already underway, we are currently inviting expressions of interest for the CopperString 2032 project. Backed by a $5 billion investment, this is a once-in-a-generation project to rebuild our network backbone.

What is the Copperstring 2032 Project?

CopperString 2032 is the largest ever economic development project in North Queensland, and one of the largest expansions to the power grid in Australia.

The CopperString 2032 project will increase the transmission capacity to 500kV and build 840 kilometres of transmission line from just south of Townsville in the Burdekin region to Mount Isa.

This project will further unlock the renewable energy potential of this region.

To join our new CopperString 2032 JV project delivery team, we’re inviting applications for the following:

  • Senior Design Manager – Transmission Line
  • Senior Design Manager – Substation
  • Senior Design Manager – Civil Works
  • Senior Design Manager – Secondary and Telecommunication
  • Senior Project Engineer - Transmission Line
  • Senior Project Engineer - Substation
  • Design Mangers - Multidiscipline
  • Project Engineers - Multidiscipline

What you’ll bring

You will create success by solving complex project engineering and design problems with a focus on safety, quality and efficiency and ensure delivery to approved design standards, time, cost and infrastructure specifications.

Experience in major engineering projects with managing the following design categories will be highly regarded:

  • Transmission line – Geotechnical, Civil, Structural and Electrical
  • Primary Systems Design – Substation design; Electrical, Civil and Structural
  • Secondary Systems Design – Control, Circuitry, Protection and Telecommunications systems

Requirements for this role include the following:

  • Bachelor degree or equivalent in one of the following Engineering disciplines – Civil, Structural, Electrical, Geotech, Construction Management, Engineering Management
  • Proven experience in engineering, project management or other relevant technical roles, preferably within the energy, infrastructure or transmission sectors.
  • Exceptional knowledge of transmission line/ substation design standards, construction methodology, codes, and best practices.
  • Experience in evaluation of existing and new engineering technical designs, construction works and processes.
  • Stakeholder management, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to translate complex information to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, multitask and prioritise workload.
  • Strong commercial acumen with the ability to work to tight deadlines
