The Opportunity
QMAG Pty Limited is one of the world's largest producers of Deadburned, Electrofused and Calcined Magnesia for the global refractory and chemical markets. Magnesite is mined at our Kunwarara Operation; transported and further processed at our Parkhurst Site.
QMAG Pty Limited is seeking an experienced Laboratory Technician based within our quality control department and work alongside the broader QMAG business by embracing a collaborative and high performing culture. This role will require the successful candidate to work at QMAG’s Kunwarara mine site working a rotating shift pattern that includes some weekends and public holidays.
The role of Laboratory Technician is responsible for providing timely and accurate analytical services to meet production requirements at both Kunwarara and Parkhurst operations.
The Role
The role of Laboratory Technician will involve, amongst other things:
- Routine sample collection, preparation and analysis to meet the needs of production.
- Undertake analysis of special and/or other samples as required.
- Undertake analysis involving advanced/specialist techniques.
- Ensure work is carried out in accordance with QA procedures and work instructions.
- Report all analysis in a timely manner.
- Undertake or assist with test works and projects as required.
- Assist in the development of new laboratory techniques, operating procedures and safety analysis.
- Comply with and champion EHS policies.
- Routinely monitor, check and perform basic maintenance on lab equipment.
The Requirements
We are looking for people with the following:
- Demonstrated experience and knowledge in laboratory operations within industrial settings
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience with laboratory LIMS system
- Highly effective written and verbal communication skills with a diverse range of stakeholders; both internal and external
- Demonstrated ability to comply with site and state environmental and safety policies and guidelines
- Strong analytical skills
- Strong computer spread sheeting and data base skills
- Proven record of innovation and problem-solving skills
- Ability to interact with people at all levels within the organisation
- Knowledge of mineral production processes and products desirable
- Ability to work autonomously and within a team
- Preferably experience with X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) machines
