About us
As a department our purpose is to help the community to prevent, prepare for, respond to and recover from the impact of fire and emergency events.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) is the primary provider of fire, rescue and emergency management programs and services throughout Queensland. The department encompasses the Fire and Rescue Service, disaster management services, the Rural Fire Service and the State Emergency Service, and also supports other volunteer groups providing emergency response to Queenslanders.

Purpose of the role
The Royal Commission Implementation team will lead the implementation of the Queensland Government Response to the recommendations of the Royal Commission into National Natural Disaster Arrangements. The team will work closely with stakeholders from across the Queensland Government to ensure Queensland delivers on its commitments to the community and to the Commonwealth, state and territory governments through the National Emergency Management Ministers Meeting.
Reporting to the Executive Manager, you will be a key member of a professional and dedicated team which will support agencies across the Queensland Government to ensure ongoing delivery of activities to implement the Royal Commission’s recommendations. You will be responsible for developing submissions and briefings to Cabinet, the State Disaster Coordination Group, a whole of government working group and internal committees, in consultation with stakeholders from across government. You will also assist with the development of QFES strategic plans and policies.

- Knowledge and/or experience in developing strategic plans and policy documents.
- Knowledge of disaster management and fire and emergency services.
Your key accountabilities
Your part in the ongoing success of our department, in supporting frontline services will see you responsible for a variety of work, including, but not limited to:
- Provide high-level advice on issues of government policy and legislation, and support cross-agency and interjurisdictional collaboration to implement the Royal Commission’s recommendations.
- Review policy and identify potential risks and issues, and develop innovative strategies and solutions that support quality business outcomes and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Prepare and review complex reports, briefs, submissions, correspondence and strategy documents to support policy implementation and project deliverables in accordance with departmental requirements.
- Liaise, negotiate and consult with representatives from across government to support the successful planning and delivery of initiatives related to the Royal Commission’s recommendations.
- Undertake research and analysis to develop legislation, governance, policy and strategic planning documents.
- Develop and maintain strong and effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to assist in meeting organisational and whole-of-government objectives.
- Represent QFES and manage liaison and coordination with government and non-government stakeholders in development of programs, projects and policies.
