About us
As an emergency service agency, Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) is responsible for ensuring the safety of people and property across Queensland through the provision of effective prevention, preparation, response and recovery activities across a range of emergency situations.
Comprising the Fire and Rescue Service, the Rural Fire Service and the State Emergency Service, QFES also supports other volunteer groups providing emergency response to Queenslanders.
QFES is one department with many services, many capabilities and many partners.
Purpose of the role
Reporting regionally, the Senior Advisor [Workplace Standards] will work closely with Relations and Standards branch, QFES senior managers, staff, volunteers, partners and external stakeholders to implement workplace conduct strategies and services that build workforce capability in the area of performance and conduct management. You will be required to take a lead role in developing and coaching managers in their effective management of performance and conduct issues and to build a workforce capability that models professional and ethical behaviour and meets whole-of-government and departmental objectives. Key strategies are to:
- establish frameworks and standards for performance and conduct management
- partner with senior leaders and Relations and Standards Branch to build capability for driving high performance and managing complex performance and conduct issues
- aim to reduce instances of poor workplace conduct and increasing positive workplace experience
- ensure good governance and compliance standards are maintained with continuous improvement towards positive culture change.

- Extensive travel will be a requirement of this role
Your key accountabilities
Your part in the ongoing success of our department, in supporting frontline services will see you responsible for a variety of work, including, but not limited to:
- Provide advice on strategies to manage complex performance and conduct matters, both practical and consistent with workplace conduct policy and practice to ensure governance and compliance.
- Partner with key stakeholders to design, develop and deliver resources and instruments to support line managers (including volunteers) in the management of employee conduct and performance.
- Analyse performance and conduct data to draw accurate conclusions on trends, issues and opportunities for continuous improvement towards positive culture change.
- Develop reports to contribute to the development of solutions either individually or collaboratively to ensure QFES continues to build and retain an inclusive, diverse and capable workforce.
- Provide support to the region/s and state office in matters relating to conduct and performance matters.
- Prepare and review reports, briefs, submissions and presentations on key topics and research activities in relation to conduct and performance matters in accordance with departmental requirements.
- Build and sustain partnerships with key stakeholders to facilitate working relationships which improve workplace conduct and performance outcomes.
- Undertake projects on a diverse range of research activities, including data collection, analysis, evaluation and interpretation, and provide recommendation to solve issues.
