About us

The Queensland Fire Department (QFD) provides fire prevention, preparedness and response services to fire in the built and landscape environments, as well as scientific and specialist capabilities to Queensland communities. The QFD provides a multi-hazard emergency response, including road crash rescue, bushfire, hazardous material, technical and vertical rescue severe weather incidents, remote and swiftwater rescue, and provides a number of functions supporting community safety outcomes.


The department encompasses Queensland Fire and Rescue (QFR), Rural Fire Service Queensland (RFSQ), as well as the broader department which work together to pre-empt, prevent, mitigate and manage the consequences of fires and other emergencies on Queensland communities and support our large volunteer membership across the state.

Purpose of role

The QFD Information and Technology Directorate support the department’s operations and organisational capability by facilitating, developing and managing technological solutions and initiatives. As part of delivering quality services our vision is to make Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) simplified, smarter, connected and user-friendly. Our teams are responsible for ICT investments, governance, portfolio, projects and assurance activities, including the implementation of transformation programs through IT planning and advice, and provisioning of reliable, secure and fit-for-purpose IT solutions that achieve optimal outcomes and enable operational front line and corporate services to deliver on their capabilities and organisational objectives.


As the Senior Project Officer [Enterprise], you will assist project leads and key stakeholders, providing high-level advice, support and coordination of tasks and activities to support delivery on various complex ICT projects and achieve quality project outcomes. You will contribute to all aspects of the project lifecycle from initiation through to client acceptance and vendor management. You will manage the day-to-day administration and reporting on program initiatives and business processes to ensure the successful delivery of projects, and achieve required organisational outcomes.

Highly desirable requirements

  • Experience working within an ICT project environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge (or ability to quickly acquire knowledge) of Queensland Government project management methodologies (e.g. PRINCE2) and understanding of Agile practices and ways in working.
  • Experience in investigating, analysing, interpreting, and presenting data in reports, correspondence and submissions.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Projects, SharePoint, and Forms will be highly desirable.

Your key accountabilities

Your part in the ongoing success of our department, in supporting key frontline services will see you responsible for a variety of work, including, but not limited to:

  • Actively participating in the planning, development and implementation of key business improvement and/or project initiative deliverables to ensure alignment with organisational requirements and best practice project management methodologies.
  • Assist with the management of schedules and budgets, ensuring records are accurate and administration activities are undertaken in accordance with internal governance and compliance practices.
  • Develop, implement and maintain work practices to manage administration activities within the project scope and ensure that deadlines are met and required follow-up action is taken, while seeking opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Support project initiatives through stakeholder engagement and communications, and organisational change management and benefit realisation plans to ensure successful project deliverables and outcomes are delivered within define timelines.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, to facilitate communications, coordinate meetings, and provide advice or guidance on specific issues and activities on projects assigned in areas of responsibility.
  • Prepare and review presentations, reports, submissions and briefing notes relating to program activities, and provide status updates and reports on outcomes, in accordance with department requirements and governance.
  • Adhere to departmental policies, procedures and standards, ensuring high-quality practices and version control management of documentation and artefacts are maintained.
  • Contribute to effective, client focused teamwork by ensuring stakeholders are informed and engaged through the project life cycle, and working collaboratively to achieve effective outcomes with a focus on commitment to customer service.
