Your opportunity:
As the Payroll Compliance Specialist, you will support critical first line of defence assurance activities by ensuring that payroll systems, controls and processes are continually monitored to ensure compliance with applicable legislation, awards and internal policies and procedures.
In this position you will work closely with the Employee Relations and Experience Teams to ensure that awards and conditions are interpreted correctly into the payroll system implemented through payroll processes and appropriate controls. The position will design and implement continuous assurance and monitoring processes over payroll processes, systems and control checks, and recommend remediation activity where required. The position will also support requirements gathering, testing and implementation of improvements to payroll systems to maintain ongoing compliance.
About you:
You’re an experienced payroll professional with a strong focus on controls, audit, compliance, and continuous improvement. You bring a strategic mindset, with the ability to translate legislation and policy into practical processes, while also driving innovation across systems and technology. A confident communicator, you build strong stakeholder relationships and influence outcomes across both internal teams and external stakeholders. You’re equally comfortable leading projects, analysing risks, and acting as a trusted subject matter expert, staying ahead of industry trends and best practices.
Key skills & experience;
Minimum five years Payroll experience in end-to-end Payroll processing, statutory payments, reconciliations and reporting within a large industrial environment and exposure to complex enterprise agreements
Expert in payroll systems, processes and associated legislation in all Australian states.
Experience with Chris21,Workday and modern time and attendance systems would be highly regarded
Experience in payroll processing > 1200 employees
Experience developing and implementing payroll policies, procedures, and governance frameworks
Proven ability to identify risks, conduct control testing, and resolve/escalate compliance issues
Extensive experience conducting payroll audits including internal reviews and external regulator-led audits
Experience leading payroll system improvements including defining, testing and implementing technology requirements
Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills across cross-functional teams
