In this hands-on, code-driven role, you will lead the design and implementation of automated testing solutions—without the use of no-code or low-code tools. Reporting to the Digital Applications Readiness Lead, you’ll collaborate with a high-performing team to deliver critical digital solutions that drive business value.
Your responsibilities will include:
Designing and maintaining automated test frameworks.
Leading both manual and automated testing efforts on assigned projects.
Collaborating with developers, business analysts, project managers, and QA professionals.
Building and executing comprehensive test plans.
Embedding automation into the development lifecycle.
Supporting business stakeholders during User Acceptance Testing (UAT).
Championing automation best practices and fostering a culture of quality and continuous improvement.
This role requires critical thinking, decisive action, and a strong advocacy for quality at every stage of the product lifecycle.
About You
To thrive in this role, you’ll bring a strong foundation in quality engineering, including:
3+ years of experience in planning, coordinating, and reporting on testing efforts.
Skilled in application, system integration, API, and end-to-end (E2E) testing.
Proficient in performance testing and maintaining regression test suites.
Hands-on experience with Ellipse, NOPV, and Salesforce (highly regarded).
Strong background in coaching and mentoring on quality engineering practices.
Familiar with the Quality Assistance model.
Proficient in JavaScript and TypeScript, with experience in tools like Selenium, Cypress, Cucumber, Jest, and Playwright.
Experienced in API testing using Postman, Cypress, and/or Selenium.
Skilled in integrating tests into CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions) and familiar with AWS and observability tools.
Holds an ISTQB Certification and/or equivalent qualifications or experience.
To be eligible for this role, you must reside in Brisbane or the surrounding areas, as the position requires in-office attendance three days per week. We believe in the power of face-to-face collaboration, balanced with the flexibility of hybrid work.
If you’re someone who thrives in agile environments, has high attention to detail, enjoys solving complex problems, and is passionate about delivering high-quality digital solutions, we invite you to bring your expertise to Urban Utilities. Join us and be part of a team that’s not only building better systems—but also a better future.
Performance of ‘on call’ duties are an inherent requirement of this role. This requires that the employee must be available to be on-call and to attend to work matters, both in person and remotely, outside of normal working hours, including evenings, weekends and public holidays, as reasonably required to fulfill the requirements of the position. The days, times, duration and frequency of on call arrangements may be subject to change, including at short notice, as required by Urban Utilities’ operational needs as applying from time to time. At all times whilst on-call, you must be fit for duty, contactable, and able to respond, including the ability to physically attend if required, to the operational needs of the business within a reasonable timeframe and in a safe manner.
