About the Opportunity
Reporting to the People Services Manager, the Rostering Lead is a key leadership role responsible for shaping workforce strategy and elevating rostering capability across the organisation.
In this newly created position, you will lead and empower a dedicated team responsible for building, embedding, and continuously improving effective rostering solutions. Your team will ensure all rosters are operationally efficient, compliant, and aligned with organisational priorities.
You will work closely with stakeholders across the business, guiding your team to act as the organisation’s trusted experts in roster design, compliance, workforce management systems, and optimisation initiatives. Through strong leadership, you will foster a culture of service, continuous improvement, and data driven decision making that strengthens workforce planning and supports Urban Utilities operational success.
This is a fixed term contract role till March 2028 with possible extensions.
What You’ll Deliver
Partner with Operations Managers as a trusted advisor to design and deliver efficient, compliant rosters that support operational and team wellbeing needs.
Lead proactive, structured roster reviews, ensuring alignment with fatigue management requirements, safety expectations, and evolving business needs.
Provide expert, influential guidance on workforce optimisation and compliance, empowering leaders to make informed, future focused decisions.
Oversee and guide complex roster adjustments, demonstrating calm, responsive leadership in managing leave, cancellations, and changing operational demands.
Utilise workforce data and dashboards to provide strategic insights, identifying trends, risks, and opportunities that support strong governance and operational leadership.
Champion continuous improvement, driving innovation across rostering models, processes, and workforce practices to uplift performance and enable sustainable workforce outcomes
About You
Extensive leadership experience in rostering, workforce planning, or a comparable operational leadership role, with a track record of guiding teams to deliver high quality, compliant workforce outcomes.
Demonstrated capability in managing end to end rostering and time administration within a complex, multisite or high volume organisation, including oversight of compliance, quality, and service delivery standards.
Proven ability to lead, coach, and develop high performing teams, fostering accountability, continuous improvement, and excellence in resource optimisation.
Strong technical proficiency across workforce management systems (e.g., Kronos, SAP, Workforce Software, ServiceNow, Nimbus T2W), with the ability to leverage technology to improve accuracy, efficiency, and compliance.
Deep subject matter expertise in rostering, time and attendance processes, and workforce optimisation methodologies, with the capability to apply best practice frameworks and modern workforce design principles.
Advanced analytical and problem solving capability, including the ability to interrogate data, identify trends, and generate insights that inform operational and strategic decision making.
Strong understanding of industrial relations legislation, awards, enterprise agreements, and compliance requirements, with the ability to apply complex IR rules to real world rostering and workforce scenarios.
Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills, with the presence and credibility to influence, negotiate, and build strong partnerships across all levels of the organisation.
Ability to lead teams through complex rostering challenges and guide decision making in high pressure or emergency situations, maintaining clarity, consistency, and compliance under pressure.
