Te Whiwhinga Mahi | The Opportunity

Reporting to the Head of Advocacy & Communications, the Advocacy & Manager will play a pivotal role in shaping RANZCOG’s policy positions and advocacy strategies. This position will lead and support a small team of Policy Officers (2), engage with key stakeholders across government and health sectors, and contribute to advancing the College’s strategic priorities in women’s health.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare submissions, reports, correspondence, presentations, policy statements and other documents as required for policy development and advocacy campaigns; and support and supervise the Policy Officers in similar tasks delegated to that role.
• Conduct research and interpret data to inform policy positions and advocacy work.
• Develop and implement advocacy strategies in consultation with the Head of Advocacy & Communications.
• Provide support with the development of standards, policies and guidelines to support members to address systemic issues in their workplace, hospital and the broader women’s health system.
• Develop and execute tactics in support of advancing the RANZCOG strategic plan relevant to advocacy goals.
• Engage with policy-makers in health (elected leaders, civil service, and civil society bodies) to advance the interests of RANZCOG Fellows and members and women’s health generally.
• Manage and provide support to various projects being undertaken in the College.
• Engage with members and trainees for information and advice on submissions, projects and policy.
• Monitor policy developments in the women's health sector within Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand, escalate developments of interest to supervisors and RANZCOG leadership for discussion along with suggested courses of action.
• Collaborate with the Communications team to promote RANZCOG’s advocacy work and messaging.
• Provide guidance, general supervision and effective oversight of the Policy Officer roles.

Ko wai koe | About you - Key Selection Criteria

You are an experienced leader with a strong track record in health policy, advocacy or public health, with particular expertise in women’s health, public health policy, funding systems and government processes. To succeed in this role, you must have:

• Highly developed verbal and written communication skills, including the capability to summarise and present complex data in plain language, using appropriate and accessible style and format.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to liaise and communicate effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders, individuals and groups, often on many different topics or projects at one time.
• Proven ability to locate, critically appraise and interpret health related research literature, and write summaries based on relevant research.
• Commitment to the development of evidence-based outcomes and evaluation of health services.
• Highly organised with demonstrated capacity to work effectively across multiple program areas, and disciplines; coupled with an ability to achieve results within tight timeframes and governance requirements.
• Proven capacity to build and sustain high-level relationships across government, health and professional organisations.
• Ability to source, build and nurture internal and external relationships in the medical college as well as federal, state and territory government environments.
• Strong awareness of global and local trends in acute and public health.
