Software Development Leads at RDA connect software solutions to customer capability needs. Each Software Development Lead takes end-to-end ownership of important software systems capability, guiding a team of software developers to meet scope, quality and schedule goals.
- Lead a team of up to five software engineers;
- Co-ordinate collaboration with RDA project management, business support, production and support staff;
- Participate in formal and informal customer reviews and working groups;
- Move customer defined requirements through the development process from specification through validation, implementation, verification, test and to through-life support;
- Coach team members to implement and test efficient and elegant solutions;
- Assure development continuity with efficient documentation;
- Lead the development of contracted documentation and data requirements;
- Assist in the development of departmental capability;
- Create a positive and productive work culture; and
- Conduct themselves in a professional and reputable manner in accordance with Rheinmetall values and policies.
About your new team
Joining the Australian Rheinmetall Multi Ammunition Softkill Software team as a Software Development Lead is an exciting opportunity to lead a cutting-edge Defence project in Australia. The team is focused on developing advanced counter-measure systems for Royal Australian Navy ships, with a goal of improving the survivability and protection of Navy personnel. As a Software Development Lead, you will work with a talented and experienced team of engineers, production and assembly teams, and military professionals to deliver a world-class product that meets the needs of the Navy. This is an opportunity to play a key role in advancing Australia's Defence capabilities and contribute to the security of the nation.

The experience and skillset best suited to this role includes:
- Tertiary qualification in Software Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent;
- A minimum of 10 years of software development experience;
- GNU/Linux product development background with C, C++, Python and JavaScript languages;
- Experience leading software development in an Agile environment;
- Ability to meet Australian Department of Defence security clearance requirements;
- To apply you MUST be an Australian Citizen (essential);
- Excellent written English skills;
- Willingness and ability to travel interstate and internationally when required;
- IP networking product development experience;
- Red Hat GNU/Linux open source software ecosystem experience; and
- Defence industry experience.
