Rheinmetall Defence Australia have an in-house Armour Shop which is responsible for the production of various protection elements. This includes materials used for the Land 400 Phase 2 Boxer assembly process, along with future program assembly processes.
The Adhesive Bonding Operator is responsible for assisting with the assembly and finishing of composite armour panel modules and assisting with the preparation of materials and components prior to assembly.
As an Adhesive Bonding Operator, you can anticipate some of your day-to-day tasks to include:
- Assembling and finishing composite armour modules in accordance with technical specifications and under direction of the Adhesive Bonding Supervisor;
- Assembling jigs and assembly fixtures for component manufacture;
- Preparing metal components for adhesive bonding processes;
- Operating vacuum table with heating function;
- Material handling using an overhead crane and pallet handling equipment;
- Assisting Quality Assurance inspectors with documentation and recording of all processes; and
- Assisting on other Armour Shop equipment once training has been completed.
About your new team
The RDA Armour Shop forms part of our greater Operations team and is overseen by our Area Manager Armour Shop. We have four Supervisors who cover specific areas - Adhesive Bonding, Cutting, Press and Waterjet. The Adhesive Bonding Operator role will report directly to our Adhesive Bonding Supervisor and work alongside other Operators in the various process areas.
The Armour Shop are currently a team of 7 but will expand to a team of 10 by the end of 2024. This role will be based full time in our Military Vehicle Centre of Excellence in Redbank.

The experience and skillset best suited to this role includes:
- Previous experience working with adhesive bonding or composites;
- Experience working with vacuum sealing equipment or performing adhesive repairs under vacuum;
- Ability to interpret engineering instructions and assemble components with an attention to detail;
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team in a production environment;
- Ability to follow instructions and work autonomously;
- The willingness to be trained on cutting equipment and cross-trained on other Armour Shop equipment;
- The ability to travel internationally (to Germany) for a short stint of training if need be; and
- The ability to gain and hold an Australian Defence Security Clearance (Australian citizenship needed as a minimum).
