About Snowy:

Snowy Hydro is a dynamic, integrated energy business that has been providing on-demand, reliable energy to Australia for generations. Snowy Hydro owns and operates a powerful combination of generation assets, including the mighty Snowy Mountains Scheme, gas and diesel plants, and contracted wind and solar energy. We also provide electricity and gas to over 1.5 million retail customers through our retail brands Red Energy and Lumo Energy.

About the position:

We are seeking a dedicated Site Engineer to provide critical engineering expertise in support of the major overhaul of our hydro units, covering both onsite and offsite component repairs. You will provide technical and quality support throughout the overhaul and equipment repair process, ensuring our assets meet the long-term reliability and availability requirements of the business.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing timely and accurate engineering advice for major overhaul work.

  • Processing, quality checking, and analysing measurement data collected during machine dismantling, refurbishment, and assembly to achieve specified build and alignment tolerances.

  • Confirming engineering designs and specifications comply with quality and performance outcomes.

  • Developing and continuously improving technical documentation, including Inspection Test Plans (ITPs) and Inspection Record Sheets (IRSs).

  • Performing condition assessment, defect investigation, and root cause analysis on assets such as turbines, generators, mechanical transmissions, and various auxiliary systems.

  • Confirming Quality Control deliverables and initiating Non-Conformances where required, defining resolutions with the provider.

  • Establishing constructive working relationships and demonstrating alignment with company values.

  • Participating in and leading commissioning activities as appropriate.

  • Providing advice and recommending procedures for operating plant under test conditions.

  • Sharing knowledge and providing training in technical theory and application.

About the location:

This role is a full time on-site role based in Khancoban, reporting to the Manager - Site Engineering and working closely with the Major Overhauls team.

Khancoban is a small town located on the edge of Kosciuszko National Park, home to a community of around 300 residents and a fantastic spot for nature lovers. Corryong is around 20kms away, over the Victorian boarder, and Albury is the closest regional city, around 150kms away.

Relocation assistance can be provided, so if you are looking for a great place to work and lifestyle, blending career opportunities with stunning natural beauty and access to affordable housing then this could be your next move!

About you:

  • A Tertiary degree qualification in Mechanical or Mechatronic Engineering.

  • Engineering experience specialising in rotating equipment or power generation.

  • Proven engineering capability to review and assess designs to meet site requirements.

  • Onsite management and interaction skills to successfully supervise contracts and influence contract deliveries.

  • Specialist knowledge in the design, operation, and maintenance of hydro assets within a multidisciplinary team environment.

  • High level of interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills.

  • Well-developed analytical and research skills.

  • Sound knowledge of Quality, WHS, EEO, and Environmental principles.

Applications close 18 October 2026.
