About Snowy:

Snowy Hydro is a dynamic, integrated energy business that has been providing on-demand, reliable energy to Australia for generations. Snowy Hydro owns and operates a powerful combination of generation assets, including the iconic Snowy Hydro-electric Scheme, gas and diesel electricity generating plants, and contracted wind and solar energy in the National Electricity Market. We also provide electricity and gas to over 1.5 million retail customers through our retail brands Red Energy and Lumo Energy.

Snowy 2.0, currently under construction, is Australia's largest committed renewable energy project. This nation-building project will provide on-demand energy and large-scale storage for many generations to come.

About the position:

Are you an environmental professional passionate about protecting natural landscapes during major infrastructure delivery?

We are seeking a dedicated Environmental Assurance Officer to join the Snowy 2.0 project team onsite. In this critical 'owners team' role, you will be the driving force ensuring that all environmental management obligations, planning approvals, and statutory requirements are expertly delivered by our contractors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assurance & Compliance: Monitoring and reviewing the Contractor's Environmental Management Strategy and Sub Plans to ensure all environmental obligations are successfully discharged.

  • Auditing & Reporting: Developing and implementing inspection and audit programs, and working with the wider team to manage the project reporting matrix for external reporting.

  • Incident Management: Collaborating with site teams and contractors to oversee incident reporting and notification processes.

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Building effective relationships with regulatory authorities, reviewing contractor correspondence, and providing crucial 'owners team' input into long-term environmental decisions.

  • Awareness & Monitoring: Implementing workforce engagement programs to boost site-wide environmental awareness and improving monitoring programs that will be retained by Snowy Hydro

About the location:

This role is located at our Lobs Hole site, working a 14/7 FIFO Roster.

About you:

  • Relevant qualifications: A Bachelor's degree with an Environmental Specialisation (or a related discipline).

  • Industry experience: Experience in a similar role within civil construction, tunneling or mining.

  • Auditing expertise: Proven hands-on experience in planning and implementing site environmental audits.

  • Adaptability: The ability to effectively manage change in a dynamic, fast-paced work environment and assist others in doing the same.

  • Decisiveness: Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify issues, make timely decisions, and develop appropriate, practical solutions.

About our workforce:

Diversity and inclusion is important to us:

Snowy Hydro has a culture of decency and inclusion, with a commitment to the health and wellbeing of our people and a supportive environment to ensure that everyone - regardless of background - feels included and can succeed. At Snowy Hydro, we recognise that we are made stronger by the unique capabilities and qualities that each individual brings, and we believe in providing an environment that allows that uniqueness to thrive.

Snowy Hydro is proud to be an Equal Opportunity employer. We are committed to the values of Equal Employment Opportunity and provide accessibility accommodations to applicants with physical and/or mental disabilities. If you are interested in applying for a role with Snowy Hydro and are in need of accommodation or special assistance to navigate our website or to complete your application, please send an email with your request to the Snowy Hydro recruitment team at recruitment@snowyhydro.com.au
