About Snowy:

Snowy Hydro is a dynamic, integrated energy business that has been providing on-demand, reliable energy to Australia for generations. Snowy Hydro owns and operates a powerful combination of generation assets, including the iconic Snowy Hydro-electric Scheme, gas and diesel electricity generating plants, and contracted wind and solar energy in the National Electricity Market. We also provide electricity and gas to over 1.5 million retail customers through our retail brands Red Energy and Lumo Energy.

Snowy 2.0, currently under construction, is Australia's largest committed renewable energy project. This nation-building project will provide on-demand energy and large-scale storage for many generations to come.

About the position:

We are looking for a dedicated Technical Officer - Steel Linings to join the Owner’s Team on the monumental Snowy 2.0 project. In this active, onsite role, you won't just be reviewing progress from a desk—you will be an essential boots-on-the-ground presence, providing vital technical site surveillance and assurance to ensure steel liners for the critical powerstation waterways are installed to the absolute highest standard.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Active Site Surveillance: Conducting daily inspections of active and non-active steel liner work fronts, maintaining detailed plant, labour, equipment records, and photographic logs via ACONEX.

  • Contractor Oversight: Working collaboratively with contractors, Voith, Future Generation Joint Venture, ATB and associated subcontractors to ensure full compliance with design requirements and Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) guidelines.

  • Quality & Safety Assurance: Overseeing Witness and Hold Points (ITPs), ensuring works align with the latest IFC drawings, and championing safety culture alongside our safety and environmental teams.

  • Technical Guidance: Communicating and interpreting witnessed activities on steel lining works to engineers, keeping your manager informed, and proactively resolving field challenges.

  • Relationship Building: Fostering strong, open, and honest working relationships with contractors and subcontractors to reduce site friction and drive collaborative problem-solving.

About the location:

This role is located at our Lobs Hole site, working a 14/7 FIFO roster. Standard FIFO and Camp arrangement included.

About you:

  • Experience: Previous experience in similar technical or surveillance roles within major infrastructure construction or related industries.

  • Specialist Knowledge: Hands-on knowledge and experience with heavy wall welding, construction, and installation practices will be highly regarded.

  • Qualifications: A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (desirable) or a robust construction trade background backed by relevant training and experience.

  • Core Skills: Exceptional influencing and negotiation skills, proactive decision-making capabilities, and a talent for managing change seamlessly.

  • Communication: Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly across diverse groups.

  • Cultural Alignment: A strong personal commitment to workplace safety and a collaborative working style that treats partnerships as the foundation of success.

About our workforce:

Diversity and inclusion is important to us: Snowy Hydro has a culture of decency and inclusion, with a commitment to the health and wellbeing of our people and a supportive environment to ensure that everyone - regardless of background - feels included and can succeed. At Snowy Hydro, we recognise that we are made stronger by the unique capabilities and qualities that each individual brings, and we believe in providing an environment that allows that uniqueness to thrive.

Snowy Hydro is proud to be an Equal Opportunity employer. We are committed to the values of Equal Employment Opportunity and provide accessibility accommodations to applicants with physical and/or mental disabilities.
