The role
An exciting role has just become available in South East Water's People, Safety and Governance Group. The Health & Safety Lead is responsible for the implementation of the newly developed Health & Safety Strategy, aiming to move to a leading safety culture across all business units in consultation with the Group Manager, Health & Safety. This role will engage with key stakeholders to build a positive safety culture that empowers every individual working at SEW to take accountability and responsibility for health and safety. Working closely with the Safety Training Development Lead and the Safety Lead, Systems and leading a team of Health & Safety Advisors, this leadership role also oversees health and safety initiatives and the injury management function.
The key accountabilities of the role will include, but are certainly not limited to the following:
- Delivering the health and safety strategic objectives and building a culture of continuous improvement and innovation in health and safety practices.
- Working effectively with industry partners
- Risk management and critical risk in complex operational work environments
- Psychosocial risk management and injury management and return to work
- Team management
Who are you?
As well as a passion for health and safety, candidates will require the following skills, knowledge and experience in order to thrive and make a positive impact on the business:
- Tertiary qualifications in an occupational health and safety related discipline and relevant industry proven experience undertaking a similar role in a large and complex organisation, particularly within civil construction safety / plant and process safety.
- Demonstrated experience in a similar role with a proven track record of delivering positive outcomes.
- Strong health and safety leadership experience to inspire, influence and motivate internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong understanding of data analytics and ability to identify trends to improve health and safety performance.
- Knowledge of change management principles with a continuous improvement mindset.
- The ability to work across a matrix structure and to influence change.
- Highly developed interpersonal skills including communication (verbal and written), consultation, stakeholder engagement.
- Knowledge and application of project management principles and methodologies including ability to plan, organise and follow through on projects
- Experience in embedding a new vision, leading by example and creating a culture of accountability and responsibility.
- Demonstrated knowledge of safety standards and regulations.
- A working knowledge and experience in improving safety management systems certified to ISO45001 and ISO35003
