Location
Cannington is one of the world's largest and lowest-cost producers of silver and lead. Located in northwest Queensland, Cannington boasts an underground mine and processing facility situated approximately 800 kilometers west of Townsville and a concentrate handling facility at the Port of Townsville.
Cannington mine provides on-site accommodation including meal services, as well as sporting and gym facilities.
About the role
Reporting to the Senior Chemist we are seeking a Laboratory Technician to coordinate & prioritize work to ensure efficient completion of analyses to meet turnaround times and who are excited by the challenges of our business and variety this role offers.
The role is being offered as a permanent position working a 7/7 roster, FIFO from Townsville, Brisbane, or Cairns
About you
Some of your main responsibilities will include:
- Preparation, analysis, and reporting of samples to agreed standards
- Maintaining the Laboratory and its equipment in a safe and reliable working state. This encompasses
- Adhering to site and Laboratory safety procedures
- Good housekeeping while and after completion of work
- Maintenance of Laboratory overheads, i.e., reagent preparations as needed, monitoring and maintenance of consumable stocks, equipment prestart and defined operational maintenance of Laboratory equipment
- Review of QAQC and initiation of all required remedial action based on out-of-speciation QAQC prior to reporting results to customers
You’ll be a great fit if you have:
- Certificate III in analytical laboratory practices is preferred
- Tertiary degree in Chemistry is highly desirable
- Experience as a laboratory technician working in a commercial, mining or production Laboratory
- Understanding and experience of relevant laboratory equipment - eg some or all of the following: WD-XRF, ICP-OES, ISE, fusion units, laboratory-scale sample comminution is required
- Sound experience with similar laboratory processes and sample preparation
- Understanding and familiarisation with Base Metal minerals analytical techniques and instrumentation
- Current Driver’s License is a requirement
- Good communication skills, both oral and written is a requirement
- Capacity to communicate with and understand the needs of fellow employees.
- First Aid/CPR Training is preferred
- Forklift license is desirable.
