Cannington is one of the world's largest and lowest-cost producers of silver and lead.  Located in northwest Queensland, Cannington boasts an underground mine and processing facility situated approximately 800 kilometers west of Townsville and a concentrate handling facility at the Port of Townsville.

Cannington mine provides on-site accommodation including meal services, as well as sporting and gym facilities.

About the role

Reporting to the Superintendent Metallurgy the purpose of this role is provide specialist advice, execute analysis and benchmarking of the Production function’s end to end performance and identifies and implements improvement initiatives that enable functional excellence and support business priorities for continuous improvement.

The role is being offered on a Permanent basis, on an 8:6, 4:3, 4:3 roster. Fly-in/Fly-out from Townsville or Brisbane.

Some of your main responsibilities will include:

  • Supervision of a small team of Metallurgists and a Metallurgical technician.
  • Facilitate and support Metallurgical programmes and test work to optimise concentrator output in the short to medium term.
  • Assess performance trends (production rate, recovery, grade) against historical performance and external benchmarks to understand performance gaps and how they can be closed
  • Working with mine geologists to understand the Geometallurgy and characteristics of the ore body and how to respond to maximise value
  • Modelling of the process metallurgical and production performance, demonstrated experience with Simulation packages such as JKSimMet/Float will be highly regarded
  • Develop corrective actions for material non-conformance to achieve planned production targets
  • Identification of technologies that may generate value for the business
  • Development and implementation of laboratory, Surveys and Plant trials for process optimisation and troubleshooting.
  • Manage the pipeline of high value Process improvement initiatives
  • Manage and support the department improvement portfolio (safety, volume, cost)
  • Front end loading of capital projects
  • Develop OPEX budget inputs for the Processing department.

About you

  • Tertiary qualifications in Metallurgy/ Chemical / Process Engineering or Similar
  • Extensive Project management and Pb and Zn Flotation operational experience or similar Polymetallic base flotation circuits
  • Proven experience with optimisation of AG/SAG comminution circuits.
  • Previous exposure to Business improvement methodologies such as Lean six sigma will be highly regarded.
  • Ability to coach and mentor other onsite Metallurgists and operations staff;
  • Strong people management & interpersonal skills.
  • Proven experience in the application of data analytics and visualisation tools such as Power BI or Tableau and or Minitab statistical software will be an added advantage
