Location
Cannington is one of the world's largest and lowest-cost producers of silver and lead. Located in northwest Queensland, Cannington boasts an underground mine and processing facility situated approximately 800 kilometers west of Townsville and a concentrate handling facility at the Port of Townsville.
Cannington mine provides on-site accommodation including meal services, as well as sporting and gym facilities.
About the role
This role supports Mine Planning and Operations by working alongside a team of Geotechnical Engineers providing geotechnical advice, and ensures that geotechnical risks are identified, monitored, and managed.
Reporting to the Senior Geotechnical Engineer, the role is being offered on a Permanent basis, on an 8/6 roster. Fly-in/Fly-out from Townsville, Cairns or Brisbane.
Some of your main responsibilities will include:
- Geotechnical assessment and input into the mine design, drill and blast, ground support, and paste processes
- Significant focus on optimal stope designs and the identification of appropriate controls
- Assessment of excavation, rockmass and support performance
- Participation & ownership of improvement projects and long-term design
- Geotechnical monitoring design, installation, and analysis
- Audits and QA/QC of ground support
- Underground data collection & stability investigations
- Design development rehabilitation and cablebolt plans
- Numerical modelling of designs
About you
You’ll be a great fit if you have:
- Tertiary qualification in Geotechnical, Engineering Geology, Civil, or Mining Engineering and/or Post Graduate Geotechnical / Rock Mechanics
- Experience in hard rock, underground operation – ideally with open stope mining methods.
- Problem solving skills which employ a risk-based approach.
- Strong communication skills and the desire to be a team player
