About the role
This is a permanent full-time role on a 4:3 roster, FIFO Darwin or Cairns.
Reporting to the Environmental Superintendent, this permanent role will see you provide specialist environmental support onsite and execute environmental project, programs and initiatives at GEMCO. You’ll facilitate delivery of key environmental management and compliance requirements and projects in line with our environmental standards, legislative requirements, and business plans, while ensuring strict adherence to the South32 safety standards.
Some of your main responsibilities will include:
- Design and execution of environmental monitoring and management programs
- Maintain processes for the collection, storage, and verification of environmental data relevant to the operation, including spatial data
- Develop and maintain operation-specific environmental documentation in line with regulatory requirements, company and Group standards, and the operational risk profile
- Complete environmental internal and external reports as required
- Maintain existing approvals, authorisations, and licences, including managing amendments and/or obtaining new licences to sustain production
- Provide project and program oversight for contractor works (e.g. environmental consultancies), and escort of visitors as required
- Provide input into the risk identification and assessment process, including design and implementation of controls and supporting documentation
About you
To be considered for the role, you will have:
- Bachelor’s Degree (Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or similar relevant)
- Significant experience in a similar role within mining or other heavy industry
- Manual open drivers licence
- Strong understanding of environmental regulatory requirements, licencing arrangements, management processes and technologies
- Extensive experience in the design and execution of environmental monitoring programs
- Strong GIS (ArcGIS) skills proficient
- Competency in the operation and handling of small boats
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain sound working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Excellent and effective data analysis, reporting and communication skills (written and verbal)
