Worsley Alumina is one of the largest and lowest-cost bauxite mining and alumina refining operations in the world. Worsley manages a bauxite mine, alumina refinery and port operations in Western Australia’s South West.

This role will be based at our Worsley Alumina Refinery which is a short drive from Collie (15 minutes), Bunbury (35 minutes – bus available from Bunbury location only) and other nearby scenic communities.

As there is no accommodation on site, you will be required to drive in, drive out on a daily basis. Employees ideally live within an hour’s drive of Collie.

The Opportunity

This is a permanent full-time position.

To maintain the integrity of the Worsley Alumina Blueprint by providing specialised geotechnical and civil engineering technical expertise to the Operation and managing modifications and project tasks in accordance with relevant processes, standards and performance targets for HSEC, quality and cost for tailings storage facilities (Bauxite Residue Disposal Areas – BRDA) and dams.

Accountabilities –

  • Provide civil engineering expertise and consultative support for the Operation and ensure:
  • Review and action of engineering change management requests associated with modifications and projects
  • Provision of relevant technical knowledge and input for the development of projects
  • Ensure compliance to relevant processes and standards, statutory legislation, Material Risk Controls, and Industry, Australian or Government Standards.

  • Participating in risk assessments and investigations into safety incidents
  • Promote discipline in engineering work, ensure quality of completed tasks and enhance technical knowledge of team members and other Engineering employees in regard to the civil discipline.

About you

  • Degree in Civil Engineering, Masters in geotechnical, soil mechanics or tailings related discipline
  • Eligible for Chartered Membership of Engineers Australia
  • Technical competencies:
  • Tailings storage facilities and dams design and construction
  • Tailings storage facilities operation
  • Tailings storage facilities and dams risk management
  • The ability to build relationships and work collaboratively to deliver great outcomes
  • Ideally, 10+ years experience predominantly in a technical capacity in a civil engineering field directly related to tailings storage facilities and dams in minerals processing or mining operations
