Location

Cannington is one of the world's largest and lowest-cost producers of silver and lead.  Located in northwest Queensland, Cannington boasts an underground mine and processing facility situated approximately 800 kilometers west of Townsville and a concentrate handling facility at the Port of Townsville.

Cannington mine provides on-site accommodation including meal services, as well as sporting and gym facilities.

About the role

We are currently seeking a highly motivated and experienced Superintendent Metallurgy to ensure that the processing plant is operated efficiently, metallurgical accounting is accurate and used to track and report production performance, and to oversee the production forecasting process with respect to ore processing.

Cannington have completed several significant improvement projects in the processing plant in the past two years and continue to have an exciting pipeline of improvement opportunities to be ranked and managed to implementation.

Reporting to the General Manager Operations, the role is being offered on a permanent basis, on an 4/3 Mon to Thurs roster, fly-in fly-out from Brisbane, Townsville, or Cairns.

Some of your main responsibilities will include:

  • Ensure optimal management of the department through the effective and efficient application of policies and procedures, business systems, human and financial resources.
  • Actively coach and provide effective leadership of Metallurgy Teams through best practices, process, and systems adherence
  • Material risk ownership and continuous effective management of critical risk areas including assisting in maintaining compliance of tailings storage facilities
  • Identification of technologies that may generate value for the business
  • Measure, track and accurately report operational and cost performance against budget/forecast
  • Support and advance critical process development and improvement projects
  • Cost performance (shared with Processing Superintendent)
  • Develop tools and processes for maintaining departmental operating system

About you

  • Role model and promote an inclusive and safety-oriented culture
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in Metallurgy role preferably within a polymetallic base metal concentrator with at least 2 years in a major projects or team leadership role.
  • Bachelor of Engineering or Science in Metallurgical, Chemical or Process Engineering or related discipline
  • Proven experience and ability to develop, lead and manage multidisciplinary teams
  • Superior planning skills from task/project inception through to full life cycle
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Geometallurgy experience in base metal mineralogy is highly desirable
  • Proven experience in the application of data analytics and visualisation tools such as Power BI, Tableau or Minitab statistical software will be an added advantage
