Located in the picturesque south-west and Peel regions of Western Australia, South32 Worsley Alumina is on a journey to become the world’s leading Alumina producer where our workforce value the lifestyle that Worsley Alumina has to offer.

Our integrated Bauxite Mine, Alumina Refinery and Port Operation is creating the essential products needed for a sustainable low carbon future.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This is a permanent, full-time position, working 40 hours per week on a 9-day fortnight roster. Our Worsley Refinery is a short drive from communities such as Collie (20 Minutes) & Bunbury (45 Minutes) which all offer an enviable country lifestyle. Surrounded by magnificent jarrah forests, pristine beaches and world-famous wineries, you will live and work in one of the most beautiful regions of Western Australia and still be home each night.

Candidates should ideally live within an hour’s drive of Collie as there is no accommodation on site.

As a key member of South32 Worsley Alumina operations team and reporting to the Dams & Governance Superintendent, this role is responsible for the integrity of the Bauxite Residue Disposal Areas (BRDAs) and water storage dams during design, construction, operation and closure. This role will give you the opportunity to deliver challenging projects and provide technical leadership in tailings management.

Key deliverables for the role are, but aren’t limited to:

  • Define and develop project deliverables for tailings expansion, deposition, geotechnical investigations, and dam safety projects.
  • Manage and interpret dam performance monitoring systems, communicating results and trends to stakeholders.

  • Coordinate and collaborate with external consultants to deliver engineering packages.
  • Review technical documentation and contribute to engineering deliverables, including estimates, reports, drawings, and specifications.
  • Lead planning and execution of remedial works, maintaining familiarity with GISTM, ANCOLD, and other relevant standards.

About You

  • Experience in tailings dam and mine engineering is preferred, but not essential.
  • Strong communication and influencing skills with operational and engineering teams.
  • Solid understanding of technical standards, regulations, and ability to relate technical solutions to business outcomes.
  • Engineering degree qualification in a relevant discipline (civil, geotechnical, or water engineering).

Qualifications for this position:

  • Engineering degree qualification in relevant engineering subject (civil, geotechnical, water)

Relocation may be considered for the right candidate.
