About the role:

Contribute to the consultancy work of the Geotechnical team by undertaking research, field investigations and preparation of reports in the scientific areas of Geosciences, working with Project Managers, Team Leads, Geotechnical Engineers and Environmental Scientists.

Our Wollongong office is looking for an experienced Geotechnical Engineer to join their team. You will have the opportunity to work on a broad range of NSW projects with local and state government on small to large infrastructure projects.

Day to day tasks would involve:

  • Provide geotechnical design support (experience in SLOPE/W, Bearing Capacity, piling pad design and PLAXIS required), plan and manage site investigations (both soil and rock logging), undertake field testing, prepare reports and engage clients. Experience in working on major infrastructure projects would be beneficial.

  • Produce calculations, specifications and drawings to ensure that technical designs will provide appropriate solution.

  • Use a variety of standard Engineering methods and techniques in solving problems (Austroads Guidelines, Australian Standards, TfNSW Standards).

  • Mentor more junior Engineers with the analysis of information, production of designs and computations.

  • Prepare specifications, proposals and other documentation both independently and under supervision.

  • Assume responsibility for the results of simple to moderate projects or sections of projects.

  • Provide administrative support for projects by collecting data, providing project documentation, and performing other general administrative duties.

  • Contribute to proposal and bid development to support business development activities, including preparing proposal material as required.

  • Work with other engineering disciplines and professionals in the coordination of the project under the direction of a senior engineer.

  • Perform field work related to different design and construction related activities (including drilling rig supervision and field logging, falling weight deflectometer (FWD) testing supervision, road condition assessment surveys, piling supervision – bored piles and CFA piles including rock socket verification) as required.

Qualifications

To be successful for this role you'll need:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Geotechnical or Civil Engineering with completion of geotechnical electives and/or major as part of your university studies.

  • Ideally you should have 5 years of relevant industry experience.

  • Relevant knowledge in Australian standards, Engineering methods and techniques in solving problems (Austroads Guidelines, Australian Standards, TfNSW Standards).

  • Drive and passion to solve problems and produce innovative solutions

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. Well-developed interpersonal skills to develop, maintain and enhance internal and client relationships.
