About the role
Our Environment team provides strategic and practical solutions to clients with environmental management challenges. We are currently seeking a Senior Ecologist to join our Brisbane based team. You will benefit from being part of a national ecology and environmental services team that has industry experts across Marine, Aquatic and Terrestrial Ecology and a range of exciting projects within Queensland and across the Asia Pacific Region.
Our Brisbane Office is centrally located close to public transport and cafes. We have also embraced flexible working which is tailored to your individual circumstance including work from home, our other offices in southeast Queensland, staggered start and finish times and other flexibility options.
Day to day tasks would involve:
Providing advice to a variety of infrastructure and natural resource management projects for private and public sector clients
Leading and coordinating environmental surveys and impact assessments of terrestrial ecosystems, specifically flora and fauna, biodiversity and habitat
Delivering environmental analysis, research and field surveys
Provision of specific technical input into studies and major projects as appropriate
Preparation of technical written reports to support project outcomes
Maintaining key relationships with internal and external clients while actively pursuing new business opportunities
Acting as a professional mentor to junior staff and assisting with their professional development
To be successful for this role you’ll need:
Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science and/or Ecology
Suitably Qualified Person under the Nature Conservation Act 1992
Completion of Regional Ecosystem and Bio-Condition Assessment training
Demonstrated identification skills in Queensland flora, fauna and ecological communities
At least five years post graduate experience ideally within a consulting, construction, or regulatory environment
Demonstrated data collection experience, including use of field collection software and mapping tools
Solid understanding of Commonwealth, state and local government environmental regulations and their application as well as relevant industry standards, practices and approvals processes
Excellent interpersonal skills to liaise with internal/external clients as well as develop skills in junior staff
Driver’s license essential, 4wd experience preferable
Strong commercial acumen to financially manage projects and seek out new business development opportunities
Flexibility to travel occasionally
Position includes both office and fieldwork and the applicant must be physically able to stand and work in the field including in remote areas for extended periods of time.
