About the role

The role of Group Leader is suited to a proactive individual who is looking to take the next step in their career. We are ideally seeking a qualified candidate with substantial experience across all project sizes from low rise to high rise building projects. We are involved in a vast variety of project types including commercial, laboratories, defence, residential, justice, health and aged care, industrial, education and infrastructure.

You will be responsible for the management and strategic direction of all aspects of the Fire Group. Provide required support to Project Leads (Fire Engineering) to ensure overall group is consistently focussed in terms of financial performance, QA adherence, risk management, and staff morale. Represent the company externally to Clients and play a senior and active role in managing these relationships. Reinforce cultural behaviours across the Group and the Buildings business.

You will enjoy a diverse position and will need to have the ability to multitask and share your time between project involvement, business development, group performance and management responsibilities.

Day to day tasks would involve:

  • Management of current and future workloads within the Fire Group to achieve attainment of financial targets whilst ensuring high staff morale.

  • Support and offer guidance to Project Leads, Engineers and Graduate Engineers to enable them to perform successfully at all levels.

  • Ensure that the Fire Group maintains an appropriate level of service to key Clients.

  • Design, documentation and construction phase activities including project review, liaison with client and consultant team, liaison with authorities, reporting, contract administration and quality audits.

  • Facilitate knowledge sharing and proactively engage with your discipline colleagues across ANZ and the world.

  • Adhere to professional standards, ethics and Stantec quality procedures.

To be successful for this role you'll need:

  • Be a Registered Professional Engineer of NSW (Fire Safety)

  • Previous experience in a Consulting environment within the Building services industry

  • Knowledge of the Building Code of Australia and relevant Australian Standards

  • Bachelor of Engineering – Mechanical, Chemical, Structural or Fire, or Bachelor of Science in Physics

  • Ability to undertake scientific calculations related to fires, smoke movement and occupant evacuation

  • Experience (preferred) in CFD fire modelling and evacuation modelling

  • Experience in the development of Performance Solutions

  • Competence and effort in managing risk exposure

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
