About the role
This is an exciting opportunity for a Senior/Principal Fire Enginee r to join our growing Sydney Fire Engineering team. We are looking for someone who is looking to join a collaborative team working on iconic and exciting projects.
Ideally you will have previous consulting experience and looking to work in a culture that is committed to quality output. Sydney have a very strong pipeline of future work. In this diverse role, you will be supporting the Group Leader and other Project Engineers, while having the opportunity to gain practical experience working on a variety of project types including retail, hotels, commercial, residential, shopping centres, industrial, healthcare, and education.
Day to day tasks would involve:
Plan, design, and direct engineering projects of a complex nature that prevent, detect, control or reduce fire and smoke in buildings and structures.
Recommend materials, equipment, or systems to assist in safeguarding life and property against fire, analyse how fire behaves and model how safety features perform in a fire.
Work closely and develop trusted relationships with other project stakeholders, notably architects, contractors, builders and end users to achieve efficient and cost-effective solutions with a high-quality outcome
Complete projects in terms of programme, design execution, technical risk management and overall client satisfaction
Run and manage your own projects
Mentor Junior staff members
Asses the fire protection needs within projects and create drawings and calculations in support of design concepts.
Represent project work in client meetings and continue to cultivate relationships with client organizations.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Contribute to the overall strategy and development of the Fire team and to our company culture.
Adhere to Stantec professional standards, ethics and Stantec quality procedures
What we are ideally looking for:
Previous experience in Consulting within the Building services industry
Knowledge of the Building Code of Australia and relevant Australian Standards
Bachelor of Engineering – Structural or Fire or Mechanical, or Bachelor of Science in Physics
Ability to undertake scientific calculations related to fires, smoke movement and occupant evacuation
Ability to independently undertake project and technical analysis
Experience in CFD fire modelling and evacuation modelling preferable
Experience in the development of Performance Solutions
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong problem-solving skills
Ability to prioritise workloads to meet deadlines
Positive, can-do attitude and strong work ethic
