Our New Zealand Water business is seeking a New Zealand Practice Leader for Pipelines & Distribution. Ideally, we are looking for this role to be based in any of our key offices, however we will consider other locations for the right candidate.

About the role

You will be working at a local, national and international level to provide technical leadership and/or project management with a focus on Pipelines & Distribution applications for the Water Industry. Your high technical expertise will see you representing the NZ Water Business as the Pipelines & Distribution Practice Leader across the NZ Water market. It is envisaged the Practice Lead component of the role would require 6 – 12 hours a week, the balance will be spent delivering your own projects.

In this role you will be empowered to:

Key Accountabilities:

  • Understand and position for key opportunities in the Pipelines & Distribution Practice Area across New Zealand.

  • Be the key person who represents Pipelines & Distribution applications for the Water Industry to our clients, convincing them of our capability and knowledge through whatever communication methodologies our business endorses, including thought leadership functions, client meetings, and conference presentations.

  • Assist teams across our regions in developing and pursuing project opportunities and when successful, potentially assist in delivery through technical work, project technical leadership, design management or project directorship.

Resourcing & Workloads:

  • Work with Group Leaders and Discipline Leads to ensure that the Pipelines & Distribution practice has sufficient capability and capacity to meet the needs of the market and to cope with workload.

  • Ensure pursuit, bid and project managers include appropriate specialist technical input in business development, pursuits, bids and projects aimed at delivering the “right solution”.

  • Ensure the required staffing level and technical capacity to meet operational and strategic business needs.

  • Promote our brand through client interaction

Technical Development:

  • Work with Discipline Leads to collate and maintain the tools that increase the quality and efficiency of delivery of your products including guidelines, standards, and sample or standard calculations.

  • Be a practitioner who is respected in the industry as a leader your field of expertise.

  • Collaborate with the NZ Water leadership team to identify recruiting needs across the business to ensure that the Pipelines & Distribution practice is competent and resilient

  • Maintain a network of practitioners who work in the Practice Area and assist in the development of their skills and their careers through mentoring. Achieving this will make it possible to maintain a succession plan.

  • Liaise with the various disciplines who might be key participants in the delivery of your products to ensure that the disciplines have the appropriate skills and client relationships

About You

You will hold a relevant technical qualification, hold CPEng or equivalent, and combined with a minimum 15 years’ experience in the Pipelines & Distribution space for the Water industry. You will have excellent interpersonal, consulting and technical skills with highly developed written and verbal communication skills for a broad range of audiences. Your leadership skills will enable you to mentor and motivate employees whilst negotiating and solving issues and queries that arise. Additionally, you will show continued learning and development in your industry practice area.
