About the role

Our well established and growing Structural team in Brisbane are currently seeking a Structural Engineer to join our Queensland Buildings Team.

We are looking for someone with a rounded engineering technical skillset and excellent communication skills. The ideal candidate should be able to demonstrate ownership of their project responsibilities from concept through to construction. Our team structure will provide the support and mentorship to further the technical and overall development of the successful candidate as they work towards RPEQ status. With appropriate senior guidance, you will be able to undertake tasks independently to support project delivery.

You will have the pleasure of working on iconic and exciting building projects across Queensland and the opportunity to support national projects. You will service projects for multiple clients ranging from relatively small school buildings, where you will be given exposure to take a leading role. To relatively large size projects where you will be a key member of the delivery team on these highly complex projects.

We operate across all building types, including health, education, sports and leisure, defence, retail and commercial buildings. The role will enable you to thrive in a successful global firm during this exciting chapter of growth.

Day to day tasks would involve:

  • Assist senior staff in the management and delivery of structural building projects.

  • Liaise with the internal multidisciplinary team, external architects, clients, and contractors.

  • Prepare sketches and calculations in support of design concepts.

  • Execute project design, detailed calculations, documentation, and contract administration.

  • Attend internal and external project design meetings.

  • Undertake site inspections and reports.

  • Undertake project QA in accordance with our procedures.

  • Mentor Junior staff members who would be at a Graduate level

  • Contribute to the development of the Structural team and to our company culture.

  • Adhere to Stantec professional standards, ethics and Stantec quality procedures.

To be successful for this role you'll need:

  • Bachelor Degree in Structural Engineering

  • Ideally have 3 years previous experience working in an engineering consultancy environment working on buildings projects. Projects within the education, health and defence sectors would be advantageous however not compulsory.

  • Knowledge of the Building Code of Australia and relevant Australian Standards

  • Structural software knowledge of SpaceGass, RAM Concept, ETABS or similar design programs

  • Knowledge of building stability analysis and corresponding detailing

  • Knowledge and capability across post-tensioned and reinforced concrete, steel, masonry and timber design fields

  • Ideally be well connected/networked within the industry

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to prioritise workloads to meet deadlines

  • Problem solving mindset with strong interpersonal skills
