About the role

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our busy and friendly Adelaide office as our Mechanical Engineering, Team Leader within the buildings team.

The role is suitable for a qualified candidate who has significant Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) design experience on building projects.

The successful candidate will be able to apply their technical skills and demonstrate commitment in a way which ensures projects are thoroughly designed, personally reviewed and delivered on time. You will be expected to service projects including those of relatively large size, of high complexity and with multiple clients.

Stantec are involved in a vast variety of project types and ideally seeking someone with extensive defence and health project experience. The successful candidate will be working in a strong team environment and will need to manage several projects at any one time. You will be self-motivated, resourceful and a great communicator.

Day to day tasks would involve:

  • Undertaking HVAC Engineering, heat load calculations, equipment and reticulation sizing and selection, coordination, and documentation for building structures

  • Corresponding with a range of clients and stakeholders including local authorities, government bodies and commercial companies

  • As a Team Leader, you will manage a team of engineers, designers and drafters

  • Provide mentoring and training to develop staff experience and knowledge

  • Prioritise workloads whilst ensuring our clients’ needs are met whilst maintaining strong and trusting working relationships with your colleague's both locally and across the international Stantec team

  • Build and develop your professional profile both internally and externally by consistently demonstrating an ability to successfully deliver projects

  • Function as an Associate Engineer on selected projects

To be successful for this role you'll need:

  • Hold a Mechanical Engineer Degree or equivalent

  • Have experience working in the consulting or engineering industry and have a good understanding of the local buildings business, experience working on Defence or Health projects would be highly regarded

  • Self-management skills will be as important as your technical design and project management abilities

  • Technically very strong in terms of understanding the key elements of the design and construction associated with HVAC Engineering works.

  • Ability to make quality business decisions

  • Ideally have a successful track record in leading others

  • Ability to multitask and deliver high profile projects in a timely manner

  • Be well connected/networked within the industry and able to foster client relationships

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
