About the role

Stantec are currently involved in some of Sydney’s largest and exciting projects within a variety of industries and sectors including health, defence, commercial, land development, civil infrastructure and transport. We are currently looking for a Project Technical Lead to join our established and growing Civil team.

This rare opportunity will see you driving business growth through strategic marketing, client engagement, and consistent project delivery. Lead by example to build a high-performing team culture centered on development and continuous improvement.

You’ll mentor staff, support strategic goals, and ensure a positive, productive environment. Oversee project delivery with strong technical guidance, risk management, and quality assurance, while balancing your workload and promoting collaboration across offices. Maintain clear communication, effective delegation, and commercial focus to uphold performance and company standards.

Responsibilities include:

  • Leading project delivery from concept design through to construction, ensuring technical excellence

  • Playing a key role in business development and client engagement, including maintaining and expanding existing relationships

  • Identifying new opportunities and contributing to strategic planning and growth initiatives

  • Overseeing project financials including fee proposals, resourcing, budgeting, and profitability

  • Managing and mentoring engineers, modellers and drafters within the team, fostering a high-performance culture

  • Peer review of design work and documentation to ensure quality and compliance

  • Representing the business in client meetings, presentations, and industry forums

  • Contributing to the continual improvement of systems, processes, and design standards

  • Ensure adherence to professional standards, ethics and quality procedures and standards and make project Teams are aware of commercial and technical risk and what they should do to minimise it

To be successful for this role you'll need:

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering or equivalent with a minimum of 10 years’ relevant project technical experience in the consulting or engineering industry

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications (Civil Engineering)

  • CPEng/NER accreditation

  • Registered Design Practitioner or on pathway to achieve, highly desirable

  • Strong leadership capabilities and experience managing teams and projects

  • Proven ability to develop and maintain long-term client relationships

  • A track record of driving business performance through technical and commercial contributions

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a focus on collaboration and influence

  • A proactive and strategic mindset with a passion for growing business and people

  • Experience in the civil related design and delivery of land development and building projects.

  • Experience in CAD based design platforms is preferred
