About the role:
Stantec’s Water team in New Zealand has an impressive portfolio of successful projects that benefit communities nationwide and beyond, with significant contributions to international work. Our water focus covers the management of drinking water, wastewater, stormwater, and groundwater as a collective resource. Dams and hydropower are a key focus, driving resilience and renewable energy solutions. Tackling our water challenges is crucial, and our diverse local network includes over 360 water specialists dedicated to innovation.
We are seeking to recruit a passionate and motivated senior geospatial specialist to join an established team within New Zealand and Australia. Your role will be to ensure the effective business development, project management, delivery and maintenance of GIS related projects and resources. You will be a mentor / coach to other staff and seen as a technical expert in the broader Stantec whanau.
As well as having external clients within private organisations and government, the group works closely with Water & Environment, Urban Infrastructure, and Landscape teams among others to provide value-added service to clients on multi-disciplinary projects.

Your Key Responsibilities:
Determine the most effective solutions to project requirements and negotiate priorities and timeframes for workload and other relevant tasks
Perform day to day mapping and analysis in ArcGIS and provide a range of innovative spatial solutions to internal and external clients
Provide spatial support and technical assistance to staff
Coordinate spatial information projects including reporting project progress
Develop and promote spatial business development strategies for internal and external clients
Stays abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of asset management software, automated data collection, GIS software, database design, and related hardware and software
Develop, support, and provide training with ESRI based web applications; WebApp Builder, WebApps, Dashboards, Field Maps, and Survey123
Lead in the development of custom GIS applications, solutions and expand the use of asset management systems
Work cooperatively with team staff and/or project managers to complete assigned work
Work within a team environment to develop geographic database structures, tables, forms, and reports
Contribute to data modeling, analyses, and reports of findings and recommendations
Leverage ArcGIS for in depth spatial analysis & solutions
Provide guidance and training to users of GIS
Be a valued member of a unique project team.
What you’ll bring:
Tertiary qualifications in GIS or equivalent relevant discipline
Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the use and application of the ESRI ArcGIS suite including ArcGIS Desktop and ArcGIS Online. Experience with FME is highly regarded
The ability to influence and inspire internal and external clients regarding the benefits of using an integrated spatial approach to projects
A passion and understanding of spatial, remote sensing, survey and geographical concepts and their application within a multi-disciplinary professional environment
Demonstrated skills in project planning and management. Well-developed organizational skills with the ability to lead and develop spatial staff
High attention to detail coupled with effective written and verbal communication skills
