About the role

This is a full time opportunity located at the Tarong Power Station in the South Burnett region.

As Stakeholder Engagement Manager – Southern Queensland, you will lead strategic community and stakeholder engagement across Stanwell’s operations and projects in southern Queensland, centred around the South Burnett and Western Downs. This is a senior, place‑based leadership role responsible for protecting and strengthening Stanwell’s social licence, shaping decision‑making and ensuring community perspectives are embedded in operational and project outcomes. Working closely with site leaders, executives and community stakeholders, you will lead a capable team, guide complex engagement in high‑impact environments and play a critical role in enabling Stanwell’s long‑term energy transition.

Key activities include:

  • Lead the development and delivery of strategic community and stakeholder engagement plans aligned to Stanwell’s long‑term objectives
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with community leaders, Traditional Owners, local government and key stakeholders
  • Provide early, strategic advice on stakeholder and community risk to inform project design, investment and operational decisions
  • Oversee the identification, management and resolution of complex, sensitive community and stakeholder issues
  • Ensure culturally appropriate engagement with Traditional Owners, aligned to cultural heritage and Indigenous Land Use Agreements
  • Lead, coach and uplift a team of community and stakeholder engagement professionals
  • Act as a senior adviser to leaders on emerging issues, reputational risk and social licence considerations

About you

  • Extensive senior‑level experience in community and stakeholder engagement, ideally in energy, infrastructure, mining or major projects
  • Demonstrated success managing complex, high‑stakes community and reputational issues
  • Proven people leader with the ability to coach, develop and uplift capability
  • Strong experience engaging respectfully and effectively with Australian First Nations communities
  • Strategic thinker with the confidence to influence decision‑making in ambiguous and high‑pressure environments
  • Highly developed written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Tertiary qualifications in community engagement, communications, public relations, business or related disciplines are desirable but not a prerequisite.
  • Willingness to live in, and be embedded within, the South Burnett region (Toowoomba acceptable)
