About the role
This is a permanent full-time opportunity based in Brisbane and a rare chance to step into one of Stanwell’s most challenging and influential operational leadership roles. You’ll be at the centre of complex decisions where asset risk, cost, reliability and operational priorities intersect, providing the leadership and judgement to navigate competing demands and deliver the right outcomes for the business. As a key leadership conduit to Stanwell’s operations, you’ll work closely with senior leaders and technical experts across the organisation, with no two days likely to look the same.
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the General Manager Strategic Operational Services leads the multidisciplinary function responsible for asset management, engineering, maintenance and outage governance, operational risk, process safety, major technical projects and operational assurance across Stanwell’s portfolio.
You will provide trusted technical judgement, draw the best from highly experienced subject-matter experts and bring asset plans, budgets and risk priorities together so complex issues move toward timely, well-governed decisions. The role has six direct reports and leads a broader function of approximately 20 people.
Key activities include:
- Lead enterprise asset management, engineering governance, operational risk, process safety and technical assurance.
- Align asset management plans with generation needs, commercial priorities and acceptable risk tolerances.
- Guide risk-based capital, maintenance and outage-scope decisions, balancing immediate operational requirements with long-term asset integrity.
- Lead and develop a multidisciplinary function, creating clarity, accountability and timely decisions across diverse technical disciplines.
- Provide trusted advice to the COO, Executive Leadership Team and Board on asset performance, investment priorities and long-term stewardship.
About you
You are an enterprise-minded technical leader who can work confidently in ambiguity, challenge constructively and make sound decisions when safety, reliability, cost and long-term asset outcomes compete.
- Extensive senior leadership experience in power generation, mining, oil and gas, heavy industry or another high-hazard, asset-intensive environment.
- Deep experience in asset management, engineering governance, operational risk, process safety and risk-based investment prioritisation.
- Strong commercial and financial acumen, with the ability to connect asset plans, budgets and risk decisions.
A proven ability to lead multidisciplinary specialists, draw out expert insight and move teams from analysis to accountable outcomes. - A relevant engineering degree, supported by postgraduate qualifications in asset management, commerce, accounting or business administration, or comparable senior-management experience.
