Who is Russell Vorpagel

Russell Vorpagel retired in February 2025 as Mechanical Engineering Superintendent at Tarong Power Stations with over 40 years in the Power industry and was well known for his technical excellence and professionalism. In his honour, Stanwell Corporation is offering a $10,000 engineering scholarship opportunity for a student from the local regional community around Tarong Power Stations.

What does the Scholarship cover?

We understand the hardships faced by students in local regional communities to attend university. This scholarship is for an Electrical Engineering student to assist with living and studying away from the region.

The scholarship program includes:

  • $10,000 per annum (paid in 2 x $5,000 payments) for up to 4 years
  • A mentoring program
  • Vacation work opportunities
  • Possible direct appointment into the Stanwell Corporation Graduate program at the end of your study

Am I eligible

You are eligible if:

  • You reside in the South Burnett and are studying (or planning to study) full time
  • You are a school-leaver or have left within the past two years
  • You can demonstrate service to community
  • You have enrolled to study Bachelor of Engineering - Electrical

What’s next?

To submit your application, please apply online with your CV and cover letter.

Applications close 11.55pm 22 November 2026. Interviews will take place in person at Tarong Power Station or the Brisbane office in early December.

As part of the recruitment process, you may be required to undertake pre-employment checks (may include police checks, AusCheck, medical assessment and/or drug and alcohol testing).

Inclusion and diversity is an important part of shaping Stanwell’s culture and how our workplace operates. We recognise and value that it’s essential to creating a safe, inclusive, and productive workplace.

We are proactive about giving our people opportunities to excel and truly be themselves. We enable this through diversity, fairness, and flexible work practices.

If you have any support or access requirements, we encourage you to advise us at the time of application.
