Provide mechanical engineering support at Stanwell Power Station, improving plant reliability, supporting outages, and delivering long-term asset performance.

About the role

This is a full time staff role based at Stanwell Power Station. As a Mechanical Plant Engineer, you will provide specialist mechanical engineering support to the production and maintenance teams, ensuring plant assets are operated safely, reliably, and within design limits. The role is focused on plant performance, fault investigation, outage support, and the development of maintenance and asset strategies within a large‑scale thermal power generation environment.

You will work closely with operations, maintenance, and contractors to solve complex plant issues, deliver engineering improvements, and support long‑term reliability and life‑cycle outcomes.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing mechanical engineering support to station operations and maintenance teams
  • Investigating mechanical plant faults and performance issues using structured methods
  • Developing and maintaining mechanical maintenance strategies and asset life plans
  • Supporting unit outages, inspections, and forced outage activities
  • Delivering mechanical engineering projects (OPEX and CAPEX)
  • Preparing technical scopes, specifications, and engineering documentation
  • Reviewing designs, drawings, and plant modifications for compliance and risk
  • Ensuring all engineering activities meet safety, environmental, and statutory requirements

You’ll work a 4-day week (Tuesday to Friday), with limited travel requirements and the potential for relocation support for the right candidate.

About you

You are a technically capable Mechanical Engineer with experience in power generation or heavy industrial environments. You enjoy working close to plant, collaborating with operations and maintenance teams, and applying sound engineering judgement to improve reliability and performance. Safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement are central to how you work.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical)
  • Experience in a thermal power station or heavy process industry
  • Strong mechanical fault‑finding and plant investigation skills
  • Knowledge of maintenance strategies, reliability, and asset management principles
  • Experience supporting outages, inspections, or major maintenance activities
  • Ability to manage engineering tasks and projects from concept to completion
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work across disciplines
  • Eligibility to obtain or progress toward RPEQ registration
