About the Role
In the role of Cost Controller, you will contribute to the commercial sustainability of the project through the provision of advice, expertise and operational delivery of day to day costing/financial, procurement and project administration services and information whilst ensuring the service provide project cost performance analysis for the project team through effective and compliant cost attribution, financial control and reporting covering areas including budgeting, forecasting, accruals, journals and cash flow monitoring as well as managing budget cost variations.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Maintain, develop and implement systems to track and report on actual and forecast costs to manage the cost exposure across each project cost codes and the overall project.
- Lead the project cost attribution with regards to month-end financial close processes, timely invoice processing and raising, accruals and cost transfers, monitoring and reviewing aged accruals, monthly financial performance monitoring/reporting, undertaking variance analysis (actual vs. planned) and advising project and business leads on financial risks and appropriate resolution.
- Play key role in the production of budgets and forecasts across the full life cycle of the project into planned monthly cash flows, ensuring reporting deadlines are met and full compliance with financial and project controls procedures.
- Work closely with Contract Administrator to monitor the financial position of project and work orders and ensure only correct charges are being debited to projects or work orders and provide early warnings to management of any deviations beyond predetermined limits.
- Prepare "End of Month" and "on request" financial reporting and dashboards for review to Commercial Manager to be presented to the business and other key stakeholders, including State and Federal Government.
- Provide support, advice and expertise on costing and financial administration matters to project/team members.
- Monitor and follow-up on employee timesheets entries on regular basis, ensuring up to date labour costings and utilisation rates for the project.
- Ensure good governance is maintained in all financial and project costings administration responsibilities.
About you:
Key requirements include:
- Diploma in Business or equivalent industry experience to support the role.
- Minimum of three years’ experience in a similar role in the construction of major civil engineering projects
- Demonstrated experience in the use and management of a financial system, including SAP and Contruent (previously known as PRISM)
- Proven problem-solving ability, and the ability to consider wider scale implications and risks
- Analyses, interprets and applies high level financial management practices and provides advice and support to others
