Principal Engineer

We are seeking 4 Principal Engineers as part of the Engineering and Technical Support business where you will be responsible for the leadership of all aspects of design development, including scope definition, reference or concept designs, specifications development and the client-side management of designs throughout the life of the project.
Responsibilities
- Ensure designs addresses key risks while balancing the most efficient approach for delivery, timeliness in the best interests of customers
- Ensure design is compliant to Sydney Water’s sustainability objectives. Ensure designs reduce embedded and generated carbon, at appropriate price points
- Ensure buildability, operability and maintainability of designs
- Administer control of consultants’ contracts including variations, time extensions, disputes, performance, resource allocation and contractual finalisation
- Develop plans in conjunction with project team the strategies for operational handover and benefit realisation.
- Ensure efficient handover to Project Engineer for delivery phase of the project
- Develop business cases and manage consultants’ contracts, including variations, time extensions, disputes, performance, resource allocation, and finalisation.
- Engage with contractors via Early Contractor Involvement to develop methodologies and cost estimates for projects.
Essential Criteria:
- Engineering degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent that is recognised under the Washington Accord
- Demonstrated experience in leading the planning and delivery of the engineering aspects of high risk/complexity projects
- Demonstrated experience in planning and/or managing the delivery of large engineering infrastructure projects
- Demonstrated skills in preparation of engineering project objectives, scope, and specifications.
- Demonstrated experience in utilising engineering principles, methodologies and tools
- Understanding of regulatory requirements as they relate to the delivery of engineering solutions, design and large capital projects
