We're leading Western Australians to their intelligent energy future.

And we want you to be part of it.

You might know us as Western Australia's largest electricity generator and energy retailer, supporting 1.2 million customers across the state.

But what you might not know, is that we’re investing in renewable energy projects, including wind farms and big batteries, to help build a more sustainable and reliable future.

Our Big Battery is now live in Kwinana, we’re expanding the Warradarge Wind Farm, the WA EV Network has launched, and we have many other projects in the works.

We're a purpose-driven organisation, owned by the people of WA. Our commitment is to ensure all Western Australians have access to secure, reliable, and sustainable energy.

We believe that the benefits of renewable energy aren’t just for some, they're for everyone.

This is where you come in.

Role Description:

The Commercial Advisor role is a newly created opportunity in our Wholesale Business Unit based at our Central Park, Perth office.

This role sits within the Wholesale Contracts team and supports the management of Synergy’s gas and electricity contract portfolio. The Commercial Advisor - Gas & Electricity provides strong analytical, commercial, and contractual support across gas and electricity contracts, with flexibility to shift focus as portfolio and business priorities change.

This position plays an important role in supporting strategic decision making, identifying risks and opportunities, and translating complex contract and market issues into clear commercial insights.

This role also supports the effective management, optimisation, and strategic use of Synergy’s gas and electricity contracts by providing high‑quality contract analysis, commercial advice, and contract administration support, ensuring contracts are well understood, risks are managed, and future options are clearly assessed.

Job responsibilities:

  • Provide commercial analysis and advice on gas and electricity contracts, identifying risks, opportunities, and optimisation strategies.
  • Support contract management and administration, ensuring obligations are understood, monitored, and accurately documented.
  • Assess market and regulatory impacts and deliver clear, actionable insights to support operational and strategic decisions.
  • Support transactions and negotiations, including bilateral trading, RFQs, and preparation of commercial analysis and briefing materials.
  • Build strong stakeholder relationships and contribute to continuous improvement of contract processes, systems, and data quality.

What you will bring:

  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline (commercial, economics, business, finance, or law).
  • 3 + years proven experience in contract management, commercial analysis, or energy markets, with exposure to gas (electricity market experience desirable).
  • Strong capability to interpret complex contracts and translate them into clear, actionable commercial insights.
  • Highly developed analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills, with a pragmatic, solutions-focused approach.
  • Effective communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively; experience supporting negotiations or major commercial transactions is advantageous.
