We're leading Western Australians to their intelligent energy future.

And we want you to be part of it.

You might know us as Western Australia's largest electricity generator and energy retailer, supporting 1.2 million customers across the state.

But what you might not know, is that we’re investing in renewable energy projects, including wind farms and big batteries, to help build a more sustainable and reliable future.

Our Big Battery is now live in Kwinana, we’re expanding the Warradarge Wind Farm, the WA EV Network has launched, and we have many other projects in the works.

We're a purpose-driven organisation, owned by the people of WA. Our commitment is to ensure all Western Australians have access to secure, reliable, and sustainable energy.

We believe that the benefits of renewable energy aren’t just for some, they're for everyone.

This is where you come in.

Role Description:

The DER Platform Operator is a 12 month fixed term opportunity in our Future Energy Business Unit based at our Central Park office, Perth.

The aggregation and orchestration of distributed energy resources (DER) and Virtual Power Plants (VPPs) is a key strategic capability for Synergy, supporting customer value, asset performance and electricity system reliability across the South West Interconnected System (SWIS).

The DER Platform Operator is responsible for the day-to-day operation and coordination of Synergy’s DER/VPP fleets.

Job responsibilities:

  • Operate, dispatch and manage DER/VPP fleets and third-party aggregator fleets during AEMO NCESS activations, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations for availability, qualification and performance.
  • Monitor DER asset performance and availability, identify faults or service requirements, triage operational issues, and initiate appropriate corrective actions.
  • Undertake DER device capability and compliance testing, including completing outstanding or incomplete test activities, to validate device functionality against applicable technical requirements and determine asset readiness, compliance and dispatchability for VPP operations.
  • Plan, coordinate and execute preventive and corrective maintenance activities across DER assets, using SAP to create, manage, track and close work orders while maintaining accurate records and aligning maintenance schedules with operational requirements to minimise downtime and maximise asset availability.
  • Coordinate with maintenance contractors, OEMs, technology providers and internal stakeholders to ensure scheduled maintenance and corrective works are progressed in accordance with agreed work instructions, with delays or issues appropriately followed up and escalated.
  • Review and interpret operational contracts and service requirements and coordinate associated operational and payment processes to ensure they are completed accurately, on time and in accordance with contractual requirements.

What you will bring:

  • Tertiary qualifications in an Engineering, Science, Information Technology or Commerce/Business discipline or Electrical Trade qualification with relevant further certification and experience
  • 3+ years’ experience working within the Electrical Energy industry including recent technical roles; working knowledge of solar and battery inverter standards.
  • Strong technical foundation in engineering or information technology, with knowledge of Distributed Energy Resources (DER) technologies and related communication, monitoring, and control platform
  • Experience managing third party technology partners/suppliers
