The Opportunity

As a Project Engineer - Tunnel, you will play a vital role in successfully delivering tunnelling infrastructure projects for our clients. Your responsibilities will include providing technical expertise, managing engineering activities, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, and ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and schedule requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Technical Expertise: Utilise your extensive knowledge of rail or road tunnelling principles, practices, and construction methods to deliver high-quality engineering solutions. Provide technical guidance to the project team and stakeholders.
  • Project Planning and Coordination: Collaborate with the project manager to develop project plans, schedules, and budgets. Coordinate engineering activities, including design development, construction sequencing, risk assessment, and value engineering.
  • Design Management: Review and approve tunnel designs, specifications, and drawings prepared by the design team. Ensure compliance with relevant industry codes, standards, and project requirements. Identify design optimisation opportunities and propose innovative solutions.
  • Contract Management: Assist in the preparation and evaluation of contract documents, including scope of work, technical specifications, and engineering drawings. Review and assess contractor submissions, change orders, and variations. Ensure contract compliance and resolve technical issues during construction.
  • Quality Control and Assurance: Establish and implement quality control procedures to monitor and verify construction activities. Conduct inspections and tests to ensure compliance with design and specifications. Identify and resolve non-conformities and take corrective actions as required.
  • Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance: Promote a strong safety culture by adhering to and enforcing safety regulations, practices, and protocols. Monitor worksite safety and conduct regular safety audits. Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and promote sustainable construction practices.
  • Stakeholder Management: Liaise with clients, contractors, subcontractors, and regulatory authorities. Address technical queries, resolve conflicts, and provide regular project updates. Foster positive relationships and maintain effective communication channels with all stakeholders.
  • Team Leadership: Provide technical guidance and support to junior engineers and technicians. Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment. Mentor and develop team members by sharing knowledge and facilitating professional growth.

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of tunnelling principles, methods, and construction techniques.
  • Previous experience in the design, construction, or project management of tunnelling projects is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with relevant codes, standards, and regulations governing tunnelling projects.
  • Proficient in using engineering software and tools, such as AutoCAD, GIS, and structural analysis software.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to think critically in complex engineering scenarios.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with diverse project teams and stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and work under tight deadlines.
  • Professional certifications or memberships in relevant engineering associations are advantageous.
