SYSTRA is one of the world's leading engineering and consultancy groups specialising in public transport and sustainable mobility. With over 10,300 employees, SYSTRA's mission is to design safe and sustainable transport solutions to bring people together, develop social inclusion and facilitate access to employment, education and leisure throughout the world.

About the Role

We are seeking a motivated professional to join our Systems Engineering & Integration (SE&I) team as a Consultant - Systems Engineering. In this role, you will provide essential technical support and engineering expertise to help navigate the complexities of modern railway technology. You will work within multidisciplinary teams to deliver technical solutions that are safe, reliable, and aligned with our clients' needs. This is an excellent opportunity for a practitioner looking to deepen their technical consulting skills while contributing to high-profile infrastructure projects under the guidance of industry experts.

  • Apply systems engineering processes throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring work aligns with ISO/IEC 15288 and 24748-1 standards.
  • Capture and maintain traceable requirements for rail systems using tools such as DOORS, DOORS Next Gen, or equivalent software.
  • Support the development of system architectures and functional requirements derived from client and operational needs.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary interfaces between subsystems, including signalling, telecommunications, and power, to ensure seamless integration.
  • Contribute to Verification & Validation (V&V) activities, assisting in the execution of plans to verify that system requirements are met.
  • Assist in safety and reliability activities, participating in FMEA/FMECA, hazard workshops, and RAM analyses.
  • Support project management tasks, including tracking progress against schedules, monitoring deliverables, and providing status updates.
  • Produce high-quality technical documentation, such as technical reports, memos, and requirement specifications.
  • Contribute to tenders and bids by providing technical input and assisting in the development of methodologies.
  • Engage in continuous professional development, sharing knowledge within the team and applying innovative approaches to problem-solving.

About You

  • Approximately 3-5 years of experience in an engineering or consulting environment, ideally with a focus on systems engineering.
  • Experience within the railway sector or a similar highly regulated industry (e.g., Defence, Aerospace, or Energy).
  • Practical understanding of the systems engineering lifecycle and experience with requirements management tools.
  • Familiarity with V&V processes and an interest in safety assurance and risk assessment methodologies.
  • A proven ability to manage individual tasks effectively, meeting deadlines and maintaining high standards of quality.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to a variety of stakeholders.
  • A proactive team player who is eager to learn from senior mentors and contribute to a positive team culture.
  • A degree in Engineering or a related technical field.
  • Chartered status (CPEng) and/or INCOSE certification (ASEP/CSEP) is highly regarded, but not mandatory.
  • Strong analytical skills with a detail-oriented approach to solving technical challenges.
