About the role
- Lead the development and maintenance of core engineering artefacts such as SEMP and TCP while ensuring safety assurance is integrated into every phase of the system lifecycle.
- Ensure compliance with legislative frameworks and technical regulations, specifically managing risks
- Systematically identify hazards and implement effective risk controls, continuously monitoring the operating environment to detect emerging risks or degraded safety controls.
- Perform quality control on vendor documentation and conduct engineering and safety audits to verify that support services meet mission-critical safety standards.
- Manage Configuration Control Boards (CCBs) and Engineering Review Boards (ERBs), ensuring that any system modifications do not compromise established safety arguments or airworthiness.
- Exercise formal Technical/Engineering Authority to develop and authorise Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs) and safety-related design modifications.
- Act as a technical interface between leadership and system managers to foster a generative safety culture and ensure transparent reporting of safety issues.
- Proven experience working within CASG/Defence project environments, applying the Land Materiel Safety Manual (LMSM) and Defence Aviation Safety Regulation (DASR).
- Demonstrated background in system safety engineering, including hazard analysis, safety case development, and the implementation of safety management systems (SMS).
- Extensive experience in applying SFARP (So Far As Is Reasonably Practicable) principles to complex engineering designs and operational decision-making.
- Track record of drafting and reviewing high-level procedural documentation, including Technical Certification Plans, and leading safety-focused audits of third-party vendors.
- Experience achieving design, testing, and integration milestones within an integrated workforce, specifically focusing on how system interactions impact overall safety performance.
- Skilled in using tools like MIL-STD-882 or equivalent standards for systematic hazard identification, risk assessment, and mitigation throughout the capability lifecycle.
